The ULTIMATE TRAVEL GUIDE to the Icefields Parkway
Показать описание
Thank you for watching the ULTIMATE TRAVEL GUIDE to the Icefields Parkway. And, it's OPEN! After the devastating wildfires in Jasper National Park we are all grateful that this section of the Park has reopened. At the time of this video being published, the Icefields Parkway is only accessible from the south and not from Jasper. Further, the road is not open north of the Columbia Icefields. I will add updates when they occur. But thank goodness things are improving and I'm hoping the rest of the Park opens shortly.

The Icefields Parkway in Alberta, Canada, is one of the world’s most stunning scenic drives, winding through the heart of the Canadian Rockies and offering breathtaking views at every turn. Spanning 227 kilometers (141 miles) between the towns of Jasper and Lake Louise, this iconic route takes travelers through two of Canada’s most renowned national parks: Jasper and Banff.
As you embark on the Icefields Parkway, you are immediately immersed in a landscape of towering peaks, lush forests, and turquoise lakes. The journey is dotted with numerous must-see stops, each offering a unique glimpse into the natural beauty of the region. One of the first major highlights is Athabasca Falls, where the powerful Athabasca River cascades through a narrow gorge, creating a mesmerizing spectacle of roaring water and mist.
Continuing south, you’ll encounter the Columbia Icefield, one of the largest icefields in North America. Here, you can experience the Athabasca Glacier up close by taking a guided tour aboard the specially designed Ice Explorer vehicles, which allow you to venture out onto the glacier itself. For a different perspective, the nearby Glacier Skywalk offers a thrilling glass-floored walkway that extends over the edge of the Sunwapta Valley, providing breathtaking views of the surrounding mountains and glaciers.
As you drive further along the parkway, you’ll pass by the serene Peyto Lake, renowned for its striking, wolf-shaped turquoise waters, and Bow Lake, another gem with crystal-clear waters reflecting the rugged peaks that surround it. The vibrant colors of these lakes are a result of glacial silt suspended in the water, which gives them their characteristic hue.
The Icefields Parkway is also a haven for wildlife enthusiasts. The diverse habitats along the route are home to an array of animals, including elk, mountain goats, black bears, and occasionally grizzly bears. Keep your eyes peeled as you drive, as you might just spot some of these magnificent creatures in their natural environment.
Whether you’re an avid hiker, photographer, or simply a lover of nature, the Icefields Parkway offers countless opportunities to explore and connect with the stunning beauty of the Canadian Rockies. With its awe-inspiring landscapes, abundant wildlife, and numerous outdoor activities, this scenic drive is an unforgettable journey through one of the most beautiful regions in the world.
