How to Expose Fuji Velvia 50 with the Mamiya 7

In this video, I use my Mamiya 7 medium format rangefinder camera, Fuji Velvia 50 and graduated ND filters to take landscape photos. To make sure I get correct exposures for my for my slide film, I use my Sekonic light meter to take spot meter readings.

Did you see my latest book Volcanic Aotearoa New Zealand? It tells Māori legend stories of love and war between New Zealand’s volcanoes, it is a story of how I faced my fear of volcanic activity, and it shows my journey with film photography since 2019.

I own a Mamiya 7II, what scanner do you use? Do you go to a drum scanner service?

Great video! That must have been fun, hanging out with family in such a beautiful place and taking photos. Really enjoyed the demonstration on the metering process.

So glad I’ve found your channel and videos as of recently. Your calm manors and great way of testing and explaining is so helpful. Currently on a trip to Moab, UT and will spend the next 10 days here exploring and shooting. I have a couple boxes of velvia 50 (120) with me for my Fuji and mamiya, I now feel better about the approach to this somewhat new film for me.

Never stop making these videos. = )
Cheers!

Grazie a presto

Hi!! Great videos!! Great Photos!!
Why when you meter the cene, with your light meter, after that dont apply the zone system?
The meter gives only the zone V, right? But you meter the black and bright zone

Great video. Interested in your velvia 50 work are you using colour correction filters for your long exposures ?

Here's a question. I know that this is an old video. But your Mamiya has a spot meter which is not as accurate for shooting landscape scenes but rather usually is better for portraiture.

My film camera has a 5 point (similar to matrix) metering system. Do I really need to hand measure the exposure values with a hand light meter (landscape scenes) since my meter in my camera basically meters the whole scene then evaluates a good averaged exposure?

If I can put a noob question to you, what's the neutral density filter for when the light is so low? Gorgeous looking results, thanks for the video!

Great video! I have a question. I'm using Ektachrome 100 with a 3 stop ND filter. I only have an incident light meter but was wondering if it would be possible to get a proper exposure with that exact setup? I was thinking of rating the film at 12 iso to account for the 3 stops. Any tips?

Hi Nice tutorials here, congratulations. I started shooting with Mamiya 7ii recently. What L-Bracket are you using on Mamiya 7?

Sounds to me Steven like you are originally from Yorkshire.
