Season three of True Detective spanned multiple decades, each with its own complete aesthetic. Carmen Ejogo told the Vulture Emmys lounge that she used those aesthetics to shape her character. Eighties Amelia was cinched in and wary of her own sexuality. Nineties Amelia was too deep in that mom life to cinch anymore. Not only did Ejogo portray different decades in True Detective, she did it all while faking an American accent — something she’s been practicing since she was a kid. “I was a huge fan of American shows like Hart to Hart,” Ejogo said. But even with years of practice, American R’s can still be tricky.
