Why Optimus Got Zeta Prime's Axe in Transformers One. During the multiple instances harkening back to the Primes. We saw how awesome they were during their glory days. Although Transformers One didn't go into great detail about their powers. There were things that were visibly noticable. Such as their weapons. 1 key weapon that we bore witness to was that of Zeta Prime. Who was the leader of the Primes. If you noticed he was the 1 who weilded an energon axe. And we would later see Orion inherit that very same weapon after being anointed as the new Prime. Although this weapon has always been associated with Optimus. It did raise questions of why he inherited in this film. Because it was established that he got Prima's cog. And not Zeta's. So you would assume that he'd inherit the Star Saber instead. But its important to point out that Zeta Prime's energon ax was probably given to him by the Matrix. Making it an exclusive weapon to those who currently hold the Matrix.

So basically with Prima’s cog and Zeta being the previous rightful host of the matrix, Optimus Prime is a very literal alpha and omega of cybertron.

Orion Pax was chosen to become Optimus Prime, so its possible through the Matrix, Zeta bestowed their Energon Axe to him in recognition of him being worthy of being a Prime!

It'd be a cool Idea of Seeing Optimus Prime using Both Zeta Primes Axe and Primas Star-Saber at the same time in a future film perhaps in a Battle much similar to his forest fight or most likely his battle between Megatron and the Fallen, but that's my honest opinion because who wouldn't want to see Optimus double duel with two of the most powerful weapons ever weirded by the Primes.

The matrix was basically Zeta Prime's cog, so when Optimus recieved it he basically got Zeta's cog. But it's not clear what happened to Prima's cog.

It would be cool if Optimus Prime also gets the Requiem Blaster from Megatronus Prime through the Matrix of Leadership as well, and it would be a reference to Skybound Transformers comic where Optimus got the Fusion Cannon arm of Megatron as his new weapon that he used with great effect.

He didn't get Primus's Cog, he got Zeta's. He had the cog of leadership at the time.

I think thats sounds great, it would mean the star saber could appear in the next film in a more bigger way thematically too and how the infinite energon that the matrix creates would allow for Optimus and matrix bearers to create solid energon tools much more efficiently than just releasing blasts of energy from built in weapons.

Also a cool little detail is that Zeta’s axe was blue with gold edges, while Optimus’s axe is gold with blue edges
(I know this was pointed out before I just don’t remember who said it)

my initial thought was that after inheriting the matrix, not only would Optimus inherit the combat skills, knowledge, wisdom, strength and past experiences of the original Primes. But he’d also wield the ability to summon any of their weapons. Including but not limited to just the axe. Idk, just what I thought, bc it would be cool to think that he could whip out any of the Primes’ weapons at will with the power of the matrix

I kinda thought the matrix doubles as a T-Cog, and would give any holder of the matrix that Axe regardless.

And because why no one got Zeta Primes T-Cog, too.
