3:25 Israel doesn't lack an endgame for Gaza. Their endgame is that Gaza is part of Israel and there aren't any Palestinians in it.

@32:50 The US would be in a much more credible position to make these proclamations about the rules based international order if it weren't currently taking a sledgehammer to that order in Gaza.

Am I the only person who thinks “maybe politics shouldn’t matter here. Maybe we should do the MORAL thing and demand that Israel grant the Palestinians a state.” People will say “but what about the political consequences with our relationship with Israel and the world!?” But, what is necessary for us to decide to that these consequences don’t matter anymore? After WWII, we aided the coalition who gave Israel statehood. We did that because of the horrors that group of people had faced. I want us to do the same thing again now. Obviously, what the Jews went through during the Holocaust is worse (at least at a scale level, but I am not confident that there is as much of a difference on the individual level), but it is close enough for me to say that IF it was the right choice in the past, THEN it’s the right choice now. Damn the consequences on the political realm. Help these people and be the moral nation we have falsely claimed to be for centuries. Please. My generation needs a reason to love our country, this is an opportunity for us to develop that love.

1:21:49 As an Australian, I saw this ABC Australia report/doc that got the reporter kicked out of the country. It was a well done report that seemed to be based purely on the facts and the fact she was kicked out of the country is evidence that democracy is disappearing in India.

I really enjoy this podcast. It is so enlightening to hear people who know what the f*** they are talking about, as opposed to watch Linsey sob and squeal on Faux News. Keep 'em coming!

Someone please give Ben more slack on the headphones wire. He was visibly uncomfortable trying to not pull it too hard 😂

Why is it that this is the first time I have heard someone reference the fact that it is in the US interest to maintain Israel as a buffer between the Arab states. Thank you Rana. It would have been nice if Tommy had taken up this line of thought and elaborated on it.

Young Israelis want peace. Netanyahu doesn’t rep them. Look into that.

India plays the Israeli role? Hindus need their own state too? OK by me if these states shrink to a size proportional to their new, much diminished population and allow those who don’t want to live in a theocracy to leave.
Most inspiring statement I’ve heard lately was a Ukrainian answering a reporter who asked if he was a Ukrainian or Russian speaker that Ukraine is a legislative state, not based on ethnic, religious, or linguistic groups.

Could you guys cover the creation of Israel after WWII? I know the French and English carved up the remains of the Ottoman Empire after WWI. What exactly happened to the Holy Land then (post WWI) and how was the creation of the state of Israel in the late 40s related to it.

Of course they won't see a post-war plan. it would be embarrassing for Israel to explain that the next steps are to remove the ruins and start building colonies (in North American lingo: condos). This whole revenge thing is also a government-funded eviction.

The US position towards Ukraine has been to get weapons to them as fast as we can? ... Seems more like to trickle arms to them to weaken Russia until Ukraine cedes the Donbas. Without the UK giving them Challenger and Storm Shadow they never would have had tanks and missiles, Germany had to have their arm twisted to give them Leopard, and the US armor contribution has been less than 50 (last generation) Abrahms.
