hate this so called trick! I have been a tailor for over 30yrs and I refuse to do this. There is 2 reasons for doing this. 1) because your machine is a light weight machine and can't handle the heavy thickness going over the the folded side seams. 2) because people love that wrinkled little faded look in the original hem. Now let me tell u why I don't like this "trick". It leaves all that bulk at your hem and is uncomfortable at your ankle. If u notice she's also using a plastic foot. Use a metal one. What gives that hem that everyone likes, is the fact that when jeans are made they are made from 100% cotton and the thread is heavy 100% cotton. After u wash them a few times in warm water the the thread will shrink and the new hem will look like the original. If your going to sew clothes or do a lot of alterations get your self a industrial machine or a older metal machine from the 1960s or even 1950s. They will sew through a small dog..lol they last forever, they are mechanical so easy to repair and sew like a dream. I have 6 machine all metal and mechanical. They all do various things and the newest one I have is my 4thread serger all the rest is between 1958 and 1972. I rarely have to take them to my sewing machine mechanic. He told me he hates when people bring in plastic machines. He said I have boxes of them in the back to go to the scrap yard. He said they junk. They are good if your one that just sews crafty things or quilt tops. Light weight stuff. Overwise get yourself a good heavy duty machine. Mind you just my educated opinion.

На Вашей лапке швейной машинки есть кнопочка черная слева, она предусмотрена для того чтобы перейти с тонкого слоя ткани на толстый без проблем. Кнопка фиксирует лапку в нужном положении и потом сама отщелкивается.

Does this still work if you need to shorten by more than 6 inches? I'm only 5'1" so all me jeans are far too long. What's the red plastic thing you used?

Not everyone has short legs. I'm tall. I have to let the hem out for additional length.
