I hope I’ve convinced you to watch HBO’s “Chernobyl”, and if you’ve seen it already—I would love to discuss it with you in the comments below! Were you as horrified, glued to the screen, and emotionally drained as I was? Did you look into the events further? Would you actually visit the exclusion zone today? This brilliant mini-series is directed by Johan Renck, written by Craig Mazin, and starring Jared Harris, Stellan Skarsgård, Emily Watson, and Paul Ritter, and I can’t wait for all of these people to win their well-deserved awards.

I think we can all agree that the sound of the geiger counter gave us endless nightmares.

I was 16, living in the U.S. when this happened and didn't have any clue about this event was. All I thought about was "Great, the Russians screwed up something and was hiding After watching this mini series, I was really taken aback by all that transpired. I went down the "Youtube Rabbit Hole" with whatever I could find. Everyone who was involved in this mini series really hit it out of the park. I couldn't agree with you more with all your comments.

One of my earliest childhood memories is not being allowed to play in the sandbox because something dangerous and terrifying had just happened in another country. Everyone seemed really scared and I believe we were told avoid certain foods.

There needs to be a memorial statue somewhere to the miners at Chernobyl and it needs to have an inscription that reads: "We're still wearing the fuckin' hats."

And yes this series needs to win all of the awards. Absolutely astonishing.

I was born 2 years after the disaster so I have no memories of it at all. After watching it, I think the most horrifying thing is not just the disaster itself, but that we still don't know how many people died as a result of it... the highest estimate is more than 93, 000.
I also felt that the few moments of levity in the series were earned and didn't feel out of tone or place; it helps that some of the funnier characters like Glukhov, the leader of the coal miners are among the bravest as well.

I thought the series was incredible. I am in the UK and was a young mother and expecting my second child when Chernobyl happened and remember the anxiety over the weather and wind reports. It is very interesting and good to know that from your perspective, the series treated the subject with honour and the respect it deserved.

I completely agree Marianna. Absolutely brilliant and sobering work. Everyone should see it. In the end it is about lies and the follies of pride. And thanks for your personal view. (And your identity card.)

I watched this video when you first uploaded it and after finally watching the miniseries I had to come back and say thank you for recommending this show. It was absolutely engrossing, haunting and I haven't been able to stop thinking about it.

Thank you so much for sharing your experiences. I had the same fears you did when I heard this show was being made. But like you I was very... I don't feel like "pleasant" is a word that should be used in relation to this miniseries but that is the expression :p. But I was pleasantly surprised by the effort they went to in order to be respectful and authentic and to avoid telling a biased story.

You did an amazing job of explaining the show and why watching isnt just a good idea, but an important one. So much so that, with your permission, I would like to share this video with other reactors who have not viewed this miniseries yet as a reason for doing so. This show deserves all the attention it can possibly get. Your experiences and the arguments you put forth should as well. Thank you again for sharing :)

Legasov's explanation during the trial was so well executed. Brilliantly illustrated for a TV audience, yet appearing believable as part of a trial in the Soviet Union.

Some of the scariest stuff i've seen, like ever. Not only in the way it portrays the disaster and the horrifying effects of radiation, but also how it was handled; ignorance and negligence are dangerous. How the people handling the situation, the government kept ignoring how messed up the situation was to the public and in the end the consequences were devastating. Lies and radiation were truly the "villains". It's been nearly three weeks and i still can't get this show out of my head.

The show is incredibly well crafted, nearly flawless; from the cinematography to the fantastic score, which complements the imagery in a sinister and perfect way. Jared Harris, Stellan Skarsgård and Emily Watson are definitely gonna win some awards for this. Also i agree on how it was smart to not have the non russian actors speak with a russian accent, it's usually very distracting, but here, i didn't even noticed, and when the show is so well done, it doesn't matter.

I'm definitely checking out that book, sounds very interesting.

Fantastic video, as always.
