As a kid I never understood the perfect storm that allowed Kevin to not realize where he was going. He sits next to a French guy who doesn’t speak English and doesn’t understand his question about Florida. Then he puts on his headphones and doesn’t hear the flight attendant. The writers covered all bases here.

The French man pretty much said to Kevin: What was that? See I am tourist from France, and this is my first time coming to America. Do you know a good restaurant? Or perhaps do your parents? Why aren't you answering me? Do you even speak French? See I don't speak English at all.

Pre-9/11 flying looks so damn fancy. Planes looked nicer, the employees were much better dressed and the airports didn't look like garbage or filled to the brim with security.

I doubt even before 9/11 that they would have allowed a child unaccompanied onto the plane like that. The gate staff would likely call for Kevin’s parents to come off the plane and fetch Kevin from the gate. Either that or the lady would have asked the man that looked like Kevin’s dad if he actually was his dad. Also there is no way a flight to New York would have empty seats 2 days before Christmas

When Kevin got on the New York City-bound plane he sits next to a French man asking him if he's ever been to Florida, the man responds in French, what he said was "What's that? I'm from France and I'm a tourist here, it's my first time coming to America. Do you know a good restaurant? Or maybe your parents they know a good place? Why aren't you responding? You speak a bit of French right? I don't speak English at all, give me a bit of help at least. My name is Andre, what's your name?"

The man on the airplane speaks French to Kevin saying "Je viens de France, je suis un touriste ici. C'est la 1ère fois que je viens aux USA. Pouvez-vous me dire s'il y a un bon restaurant?. Peut-être que vos parents connaissent un bon endroit (pour manger)? Pourquoi ne réponds-tu pas? Tu parles un peu français? Je ne parle pas anglais du tout. Hé! Tu pourrais m'aider! Tu ne veux pas me parler, n'est-ce pas? Tu ne veux pas? Tu me boude?", roughly translated it means "I come from France, I'm a tourist here. It's the first time I come to USA. Can't you please tell me if there is a good restaurant? Only (no sense). Maybe, your parents know a good place (to eat)?. Why don't you answer? You speak French a little? I dont speak English at all. Hey! You could help me! You don't want to talk to me, do you? You dont want? Are you ignoring me? My name is Andre".
