Absolutely not too many distros. Once there are only two or three, they all get arrogant and stop listening to users. I like the open competition for users all the time. I love having Mint DE and Endeavor available and will move again if either of them mess up!

Need more hardware drivers in the repos of many distros. Mxlinux I've found has the most. Don't like adding manually only to break during a OS update.

It ultimately comes down to 'freedom'. You have the freedom to create your own Distro if you want. Who am I to tell you what you should do with your time? Every response begins with "I think..." or "I believe..." but if you believe or think whatever, you have the freedom to do what you want. Go work on the distro you like, support it financially, promote it from the rooftops, but bashing other people for exercising their freedom to create a new Distro is an exercise in futility. I personally like the redundancy that comes with everyone and their mother being able to create their own personalized Distro. It reminds me of the old days when everyone had their own MySpace page or personal webpage to express who their were. Update: A response might be that people should focus their energy on making existing distros better rather than creating a new Distro, but I argue that there are many ideologies entrenched in the mission statements and personal rants of a lot of the major distro and project development teams. They were even attacking you for goodness sakes for your religious beliefs. I wouldn't want to give them a minute of my time.

Just needs to be a really good rating system, better than distrowatch to be able to see which distros are good and which ones are not maintained. Like Steam has "recent ratings" and "overall". Need to be able to see what the last month of reviews for a distro is.

There are way too many distros. If we just stuck with the major players, we would be ok. I personally think that Debian should be the standard, since its mission critical stable.

No, just too many bone-idle Linux newbies who think they are experts just because they own a Steam Deck but are too lazy to put in time and effort to do proper research, choose a distro and stick with it.

This is why we have "universal package manager" wars with snaps, appimages, flatpaks and "Pick 'n' NixOS" - "I want two of that package over there, one of these packages over here, and I want strawberry sauce and sprinkles on it... and ME ME ME wants it NOW NOW NOW!"

i install mint for all my relatives and friends (and customers where permitting), personally i have it running only as a vm on my windows 11 pc

Admission time .... the windows 11 desktop enviroment is more polished then any linux enviroment out there, but I would not install it for anyone else, i use it because i have the knowledge/power to "tame the beast", and yes the beast has to be constantly tamed :)

Chris Titus's powershell script plus other tweaks only take a few mins every now and again

IMO Cinnamon is just a hideous desktop environment, and running it on its home di;tro Linux Mint doesn't save it. It's just ugly. I'd rather Debian support Trinity over Cinnamon, but instead it's the opposite. Mint can keep their crap desktop. Honestly, it could be improved heavily by redoing the applications menu; its design has to be the biggest eye sore in the desktop, although it is certainly not its only problem.
