Grandma passed down the same type of sheet cake to me and every year dad asks me to make him this sheet cake for his birthday since it’s his favorite cake from childhood. The icing is SO rich (especially when leaving out the nuts). Something fun you should try is starting to make the icing 5 min before the cakes done so that as soon as the cake is out of the oven you can pour the icing on top of it. The cake almost absorbs some of the icing and it’s fantastic 😊

My grandmother used to make this for me so I think the recipe is older than the 70s. I always put a cup of very strong coffee in there.
