Jumping Clinic on Roger! | GoPro & Raws

Here are some GoPro and raw clips from a little jumping clinic I did back in April. This was my first time jumping Roger round a course in about 8 months and my second time cantering into jumps in about the same length of time, so I was a little bit rusty!

We worked on lots of twisty lines around the arena - you can tell how hard I was having to concentrate because I can’t remember the last time I was so quiet during a course!

It’s interesting to watch these clips back because I hadn’t realised how much I was tipping forward and panicking/flapping in the last two strides at the time, along with it all just generally being a bit fast & furious! I feel like I’ve already improved on those things a little bit over the last couple of months, so hopefully now we are doing a bit more jumping in lessons everything will fall back into place.

🚨For a bit of balance, I would appreciate it if anyone leaving rude or negative criticism/tips/advice would also donate at least £1 to a charity of their choice 😊

QOTD: What have you been working on in your riding recently? Working on your position, or a new flat or jump exercise?

Ponies/horses:

⬇️ FAQs ⬇️

🔵 DO YOU OWN THE HORSES & PONIES IN YOUR VIDEOS?
No, all the horses & ponies belong to a lovely riding school, or are working liveries at the same yard.

🔵 WILL YOU EVER GET YOUR OWN HORSE?
I would love to own a pony one day, but for now I am more than happy having weekly lessons on the fantastic riding school horses & ponies.

🔵 WHY DO YOU ALWAYS JUMP THE SAME HEIGHT?
These riding school ponies usually jump more than once a week, and sometimes more than once a day, so we don’t jump ‘big’ except on special occasions to ensure the ponies stay sound and live long, happy lives. Fence height has very little to do with jumping technique or experience.

🔵 HOW LONG HAVE YOU BEEN RIDING FOR?
I’ve been having weekly lessons in riding schools for 16 years now!

🔵 IF YOU’VE BEEN RIDING FOR SO LONG, WHY DON’T YOU COMPETE?
I have no personal interest in competing or jumping huge tracks. I ride for fun, simple as that!

🔵 WHY ARE THE HORSES ALREADY TACKED UP WHEN YOU APPROACH THEM?
This is a busy riding school & livery yard and so the lesson horses are tacked up by the staff who work there to ensure they are ready to leave the yard on time and have been tacked up correctly.

🔵 DO THE HORSES STAY TACKED UP 24/7?
No. The horses are only tacked up right before their lessons and spend the rest of their time turned out in grass fields.

🔵 WHO IS ROBIN FROM YOUR VIDEOS?
Robin is my mum and she rides with me in my lesson every week. She's 64 and fearless as ever!

Horses are the best. He made such a wise decision not to try to jump that skinny when he realized that's what you were aiming for--he didn't seem to have the traction in that footing to go for it once he did. You did a great job coming at it again. What a great teacher he is! Really well ridden especially for being off jumping for so long as well. Great pair, you two!

I love your two point so much!❤️ You and Rodge did amazing. Keep it up! Love from Czech republic <333

AOTD: My pony is currently lame so I have been riding different horses. I am working on holding the horse before the jump and not slightly releasing the reins before I have to. I was trying a horse we will probably be buying and worked on turning and pole work. She was such an angel

I can't get over how cute his ears are. You can tell he's really listening to you and that he enjoys jumping. My heart T_T
