For my retirement, my wife got me one; always wanted a GMT. The old “root beer” color combo has always been my favorite but wife got me the black and grey bezel one.

My mom worked for TWA and I always traveled with her. Always saw captains wearing Rolex. Went to a dealer to buy one and told I’d have to wait unless I built a purchase history by buying other watches. After the 2nd dealer basically said the same thing, I went and bought a longines Zulu time. Has the history with aviation without the terrible attitude of Rolex thinking they are better and not letting you buy what you want.

It's the watch I will get when I retire. A reminder of our family holiday in the mid-70s flying Pan Am around the world for 3 months.
I was about 10.
Plan to repeat the same 3 month holiday when I retire.

The GMT Master II in the classic red and blue, with a jubilee bracelet has long been on my bucket list for fine watches. Both as a lover of watches, and as a lover of aviation and history. I don’t know if I’ll ever achieve owning one, as prices have skyrocketed since its inception so long ago, but it’s always on my mind.

It took me 18 months to find a perfect 16710 Pepsi with lug holes and solid end links. I smile every time looking at the time.
