Djrum's Multi-Deck Vinyl Mixing Tricks | The Art of DJing

It’s no stretch to call Djrum a virtuoso. The British artist's years-honed craft champions risky genre combinations, bold tempo shifts and knife-edge turntablism. His vinyl-only, multi-deck practice uses cutting and scratching to move across a vast sound palette, always prioritising head-turning moments over flawless mixing. Few DJs have pushed the art form further.

In our latest Art of DJing, he digs deep into the tricks and techniques at the heart of his uncompromising methods. Watch his masterclass in vinyl crab scratching, frequency spectrum blends, creatively mixing out of curveball records and more.

Director/ Editor - Sam Mulvey

You think you're pretty decent on 1210s and then you watch something like this. Levels.

I saw him twice, both times at Waking Life. Seven years passed between my first listen to Djrum's music and experiencing his craft during a DJ set. I couldn’t have been more curious and excited the first time in 2022.
Musically and sonically: a journey. Visually, too: a proper dance of that visible upper body—so focused, yet so relaxed, without batting an eye—while redefining your dancefloor experience.

How could Djrum's set at Waking Life 2024 be even more special? It was, once again, truly unique because the man passionately draws you into the most tender parts of his collection, as well as the most feral.
From no beats to 90, to 180, to 1000 bpm—mixed with brutal poetry.
What a dancefloor journey, at times going beyond music itself.

Merci, Felix!

I've thought about the whole "using an ambient track as a bridge" thing before but is another level. It's really a whole performance in one little moment. Great stuff.

The thing is, the concepts may be simple, but his execution, which is the hard part, is just so on point!

The best 22 mins I’ve spent on here for a while. Makes it look like it’s nothing. Inspiring and makes me want to jump on the 1210s and half attempt some of this stuff.

The fact that you use vinyl puts you in a unique category considering it is a bit too restrictive for most. That being said, I implore your efforts.

Discovered him at Making Time in Philly a few months ago. His set really blew me away, probably up there as the best of the night. Real skills here

He’s playing in London at Pickle Factory at the end of the month. Don’t miss him! I have seen him and he’s amazing.
