Enjoy your videos - I used Amtrak to go to a soccer game in Oakland from Redding this it was a nice use of Amtrak Thruway Bus, Capitol Corridor, and the Coast Starlight.

I enjoy train travel and love your videos! I have a condo about 40 feet away from the Amtrak tracks where the Wolverine travels. I can watch all 6 trains from my bedroom window!

Yay, Happy 50th Birthday Rob and Happy Birthday Allie as well. Hope you all are having a blast in Canada. Safe travels. I went to Canada a few decades ago to Ontario. That was in the 1970s and you only needed a state ID and Birth Certificate. Such a beautiful place to see.

Anchorage is a beautiful 4300 mile drive from Detroit. An 11 day drive.

Happy Birthday to you both!! The last car on Via Rail's Canadian is called a dome observation car which is a rare sight. I've seen a few during the '50's & 60's, & plan on taking a trip on this train in Prestige Class in '24. The cars on the Canadian are very similar to heritage cars used before & a few decades after Amtrak's takeover. The bedrooms for 2 are somewhat different on the Canadian today. When I rode in these type sleeper cars in the U.S., bedrooms had a couch similar to those found today in Amtrak's bedrooms. Other rooms had a large seat with a separate armchair. I've seen pics & videos of the Canadian's bedrooms with 2 armchairs without leg rests which don't appear to be too comfortable for long trips. Although Prestige Class is very pricey, it allows more comfort & room to sit or stretch out. Long trips in the Canadian's sleeper cars with open sections are ok for families, but don't offer much privacy for daytime travel. I'm looking forward to seeing the video of your trip.

You guys are awesome so happy to watch these videos. Very helpful information for beginners. My husband and I are both in our late 70's and we haven't taken the plunge yet to actually ride a train. We have a son who lives in ABQ and we have been thinking about doing a trip out to see him. Happy Belated Birthdays to you both.

My experience at Niagara Falls, ON is that we get off the train, go through customs rather quickly, and then wait, standing, in a crowed station for more than a half hour while customs inspects the train, and the VIA Rail crew boards and sets up. It is worse going the other way in Niagara Falls, NY where we have to line up to wait until US Customs is ready for us, which invariably takes a long time even though they know when we are arriving, go through there more slowly under crowded conditions, including a baggage scan, and then wait in the waiting room until we are called to board again. At least there are usually enough seats in the waiting area.

A passport is NOT necessary for US citizens if you have an enhanced driver license, Passport Card, FAST or NEXUS card as long as you are entering by land or water. By air, a passport IS needed and if you have one, it is a good idea to bring it even if you are not flying.

The B.C. Ferries are very large! I have problems with seasickness on smaller boats but never on B.C. Ferries. We took one to Victoria this July. Amazing. Happy Birthday to you both!
