Review of IXL

Ever wonder if IXL is for your family? Have a hard time motivating your child to learn his math facts or practice her grammar? We're not a big fan of IXL mostly because the kids get more frustrated than we would like. Sometimes it is a bit too harsh on the point system and some kids need more positive reinforcement to build that confidence. We've been using Beestar more and the kids have enjoyed it for the last few years.

From a students point of view using IXL is very frustrating and stressful Because of the "Point" system. It is unfair on the student because they work hard to complete assignments and then their score goes out the window with one question wrong.

I remember hating doing this back in 4th grade

I like IXL as a supplement, but not as a stand alone curriculum. We use it for either extra practise OR as a way to fulfill subject areas that are not covered with our other resources, in order to “check off” the boxes so to speak.
Just a note, we use IXL Canada which only covers math and language arts.

Ixl Is Not a good learning platform because even tho it doesn't have a test score it will keep you stuck in one pace until you get the concept and it will just continue to drop you down until you hit zero making you start all over again if you keep getting stuff wrong. This will put a major amount of stress on kids because kids got other shit to do in school and also in there lives and putting another industrial age school system program is just like adding 10 more peices of homework to your daily amount of 2 peices per class. But if your intresting in learning something and not being pushed and forced in one whole hour to do a concept just like they do in school. Ixl will be great for that if you take breaks bewteen learning the concept and not do too much a day. But school likes to skip foward and push through like a factory cause they dont care about most kids and only want the ones that can work with the pace like a factory worker.

I'm probably going to have to spend money on IXL. I can't wait to utilise it to the very best! But I still have no idea why it seems to have more haters than it does participants...

So do you get access to ALL grade levels? Because my son is in 2nd grade and I want him to have help with that but he's behind in English so I'd love to access previous grade levels for spelling.

But one of the lessons are too hard for me I’m in second grade and lessons are hard 0:24

Dont use IXL !!! Its an aboslute time waster! When you do a question correct it gives you 2 points, but when you do a question wrong, it takes away TEN points. This app is extremely stressful and they make math harder, dont use this horrible learning app!

There is no info for most lessons except a little bit of math and it takes you down like 6-12 points and gives you like 2
