The Renault 5 is the most exciting new car of 2024 - first look detailed review. Following in the tyre treads of Fiat's 500 and the new Mini, Renault has waited 52 years to launch an all-new (all electric) vibrant and unashamedly French Renault 5 to the market. With two battery pack sizes, an EV range of up to 250 miles and styling that carefully weaves between retro and futuristique, the £22,000 (est) R5 builds on Renault's electric models that began some 10 years ago with the Zoe.

THIS is what we need. We don't need bloody Cybertrucks, we need practical, well-priced, fun, EVs like this.

This is what EVs should be. Small, light and efficient. And reasonably priced. Not like these large, heavy and unnecessarily powerful SUVs. I love the styling. I worked in a Renault dealership in the 80s and can see the old R5 in this new one. Chapeau Renault.

In an age of identical faceless Chinese SUVs that I struggle to tell apart, this is a revelation. I can put aside any EV prejudices, simply because it looks absolutely amazing inside and out. Thanks to God, Renault are back!!

As someone who was flicking through the pages of max power in the 90s, this put a smile on my face. I have to be honest, I think this car looks amazing.

As a Frenchman, it is wonderful to see French manufacturers returning to innovative, well thought out, quirky but attractive vehicle design while keeping to the cost conscious ethos that were at the foundation of so many of our cars.

If this very cool "5" had been priced at $50K, it would have been a joke.

As a side note, thank you Mr. Smith for always taking the extra editing time to show viewers cut away shots that allow us to visualize historical references.

So many presenters speak to how design cues remind them of this or that but fail to help remind the viewer, visually.

This shows incredible attention to detail and is, in part, why this channel is, finally, growing to the deserved level.

My only regret about the Cinq, besides wishing that it could have an ICE, is that I, likely, won't ever get to drive it. I live in Miami and will, likely, never move back. Renault did quite well, in the US, with the Le Car (the name given to the 5) but botched it up. French arrogance, thinking that they could just keep marketing without product evolution.

Peugeot was even worse when they tried to push the 405 here. Their commercials featured upper crust, tweed fancy dress, Europeans driving up pebble drive ways leading to a French castle. They were convinced that Americans would swoon over the possibility of feeling like European royalty. Was a pathetically stupid error.

Sadly, they gave up and have never been back since.

Sorry, I went off on a tangent but I am bitter that everyone across the pond gets to enjoy these vehicles and that I don't. =)

Renault have absolutely nailed the design, it's so refreshing to see colourful paint jobs instead of the miserable black, white and silver palette we've become accustomed too in the UK. Also huge props to Renault for giving us PHYSICAL BUTTONS for heater controls! They really are on to a winner here. Excited to see what they do with the Twingo and R4

I'm not a huge EV fan, but I do like this. Surely this is the way the industry needs to go instead of making huge 2.5 tonne SUVs and chasing crazy 0-60 times.

Not since the Honda E have I wanted a new car so badly! Bravo Renault on building an absolute beauty of a car. So refreshing to see such excellent colours too!

I have the same feeling as when I first saw the Ioniq 5, this car is beautiful and I want it.

This is the first electric I’ve looked at that I actually want, what a cool little thing!

you had me at baguette holder... Possibly my new fave EV - not another SUV but exactly what is needed in this space!

As design exercises go, this must be up there with one of the very best in decades. Could be an absolute game changer, especially at that price point. What a thing.

I'll take the yellow one please. Thank you.

I liked the old GT turbo. Make a new one of those and I'd buy it.

Renault has knocked it right out of the park with this!

I love the design, simple, clean and elegant yet very modern and the proportions are right, that's how a car should look like 👍

This is an 11/10. It has a sense of history, the interior feels human and emotive, not like many of the otherer electric cars and both inside outside design is so pretty. The yellow interior is stunning, the use of natural fabrics makes the interior feel human, not robotic. Everything about this is spot on. I really wish this was an ice car tbh but it's so good I'm willing to forget it's an Ev. I would 1000% buy one, it's such an endearing design

Love the interior and seats. Takes me back to my days when I owned a Renault 5 GT Turbo.
