Fake doesn’t feel like the right word here. Maybe Fan-made Physical Rom. If it works fine, saves fine & the English isn’t broken I’d say that’s pretty cool & I’d ask you for the sellers details so I could maybe get my own copy.

In other words, this is exactly what they did with mother 3, fan-dubbing it theirselves because the japan version is the only one existing

English fan translation/rendition of the Japanese Pokémon Green game, ported to a cartridge with fan artwork. Not really “fake” so much as it never existed in English. A cool one for the collection!

I want a fake cartridge to just say GameGuy once

this is now defined as a romhack created by a fan.

Yeah this is why the box is worth more then the game itself

Green and the original release of Red never had international releases because there were problems nintendo wanted adressed. Its why in the west the release for red ang blue are between 1998 and 1999.

I have this cartridge! It works, and I'd call it more of a fan-translation, not fake. Kinda like the MOTHER 3 English Cartridges. Only Glitch I found is when you put a pokemon in the box, the pokemon corrupts.

I think bootleg would be the right word for this

So this pokemon green is just copied version of the Japanese one but translated? That sounds great to me

Pokemon Green WAS going to be released in US and a few Copies WERE made not many was around a dozen test copies if that but not more then that. But, was Not released to US and the Test Copies either went to a vault or destroyed most likely.

careful of bad solder tho sometimes the carelessness in connection can fry your Gameboy

Also, the original pokemon games in Japan didn't have colored cartridges, it was the basic pale plastic like with Nintendo 64.

The fact that I have a Pokemon Fire Red version for my Game Boy Color in my room is just amazing

The problem with fake and reproduction pokemon games is they have a tendency to crash and delete your save files you could lose literally hours of work in seconds

I have a repro cart of pokemon yellow and crystal and both work perfectly fine. Repro carts getting labeled as "fake" gives off a bad vibe around them. They're actually quite nice especially with how expensive original copies of these games cost, and the fact most original copies need battery swaps as where the repros don't.
Only downside is with crystal as it doesn't have the sparkly blue cartridge shell, which tbh isn't a huge deal to me anyway (i had completely forgotten the original cartridge was transparent)
