The Pagan Roots of Democracy
Показать описание
This is an excerpt from a new full-length teaching by Jerry Robinson entitled: Democracy vs the Bible
Video Description: While many Christians like to credit the Mosaic Law, in general, and the Ten Commandments, in particular, as the source and foundation of our Western concepts of civil rights, and even our modern form of democratic government, this thesis falls apart under deeper investigation.
In fact, Western democratic governments find their deepest roots, not in Moses, but in another ancient lawgiver in ancient democratic Greece named Solon.
In approximately 594 B.C., Solon was elected as the leader of democratic Athens. He is not only the original founder of a constitutional form of government, he penned the first known Constitution in Western civilization for the ancient Athenian people.
In this constitution, he declared both the right and the duty for all citizens to bear arms, from which America has derived its 2nd Amendment.
Solon also eliminated rule by birthright, opening up government offices to all property-owning males with a rule by majority vote.
Under Solon, it was the “will of the people”, not the “will of God” that would determine the destiny of Athens.
While it is quaint to hear modern Christians talk about the Judeo-Christian influence of the Mosaic Law and the Ten Commandments, it is notable that Western democracies openly (and hostilely) reject the first four commandments.
