I don't obsess about taxes. Index funds and their near equivalent ETFs like VTI and VEU are pretty tax efficient in their own right. As for dividend stocks, which is what I tend to focus on, I just use VIG with a smaller position in VIGI and leave it alone. No need for guessing games or trying to predict the future.
