Pilates for everyone... Tip for activating the POWERHOUSE

Try this technique if you are having trouble feeling if your core muscles (POWERHOUSE) are being correctly activated or not.

Lay on your back, knees bent, feet on the floor. Place your fingers around your pelvic bones on both sides. When your core muscles are relaxed, you'll be able to push into the soft tissue.

Now try to activate the POWERHOUSE...

Flatten your lower back into the floor, pull your belly button in towards your spine, squeeze/clench your pelvic floor muscles and scoop them up towards your ribcage.

You should feel your fingers being pressed up and away from your pelvic bones.

If not, don't get discouraged. Keep at it, these muscles increase their strength quickly.
