INTERSTELLAR ist ein US-amerikanisch-britischer Science-Fiction-Film unter der Regie von Christopher Nolan aus dem Jahr 2014. Nolan überarbeitete das Drehbuch seines Bruders Jonathan, das dieser 2007 für die Produzentin Lynda Obst und Paramount Pictures verfasst hatte, und produzierte den Film mit Obst und Emma Thomas. Die Finanzierung und Vermarktung übernahmen Paramount Pictures und Warner Bros. gemeinsam.

Filmhandlung:
Was Wissenschaftler, Politiker und Aktivisten seit Jahrzehnten prophezeien, ist eingetreten: Die Menschheit steht kurz davor, an einer globalen Nahrungsknappheit zu Grunde zu gehen. Die einzige Hoffnung der Weltbevölkerung ist ein von der US-Regierung finanziertes Projekt eines findigen Wissenschaftlers (Michael Caine), das sich Kip Thornes Theorie der Wurmlöcher bedient. Der Plan ist, eine Expedition in ein anderes Sternensystem zu starten, in dem man einen bewohnbaren Planeten, Rohstoffe und vor allem Leben vermutet. Der Wissenschaftler Cooper (Matthew McConaughey) und die Astronautin Brand (Anne Hathaway) bilden die Besatzung, die sich auf eine Reise ins Ungewisse begibt, denn Wurmlöcher sind so gut wie unerforscht und niemand kann mit Sicherheit sagen, wo sie auf der anderen Seite landen werden. Ebenso ist unsicher, ob und wann die beiden jemals wieder auf die Erde zurückfinden. Auf dem blauen Planeten wartet jedenfalls Coopers Tochter Murph (Mackenzie Foy), die als kleines Mädchen das Shuttle mit ihrem Vater davonfliegen sieht...
