'Song to the Siren' by Tim Buckley and Larry Beckett (cover)

Показать описание
"Song to the Siren" was written in 1967 and first recorded by Tim Buckley in 1970. It is one of his better known songs because it has been covered by so many artists over the years. A friend on the Acoustic Guitar Forum recommended this song to me a couple of weeks ago; I loved it and decided to record this immediately. I used my Guild F-512 12-string with the capo up on the 7th fret for this song. I also added some sampled strings and a female vocal choir. The siren, beautiful maidens who beckon ancient sailors onto the rocks with their ethereal voices, appear in Greek Mythology, especially in the story of Jason and the Argonauts. Many feel that this song is a metaphor for a person being tempted into a dangerous love from a woman who may not be terribly committed. Here are the lyrics:
Long afloat on ...shipless oceans,
I did all my ...best to smile,
'Til your singing ...eyes and fingers...
...Drew me loving ...to your isle,
And you sang, "Sail to me,
Sail to me, let me en- fold you!"
Here I am, here I am ...waiting to hold you
Did I dream you ...dreamed about me?
Were you hare, when ...I was fox?
Now my foolish ...boat is leaning,
Broken lovelorn ...on your rocks,
For you sing, "Touch me not,
Touch me not, come back to - morrow!"
Oh, my heart, oh, my heart ...shies from the sorrow
I am puzzled ...as the oyster,
I am troubled ...as the tide,
Should I stand ...amid your breakers,
Or should I lie with ...Death my bride?
Hear me sing, "Swim to me,
Swim to me, let me en - fold you!"
Here I am, here I am ...waiting to hold you
