Shimano, please put this technology on big surf casting conventional reels. For example, a reel big enough to hold 300m of 65 lb braid. Magnets are great, but DC braking is next level technology. You've got something groundbreaking here.

As I get older, I have lost flexibility and strength. Having a dc reel has given me my casting back and made fishing a quality of life extender. Hope the inventor is a billionaire. Worth it.

I am amazed that people don't understand you never need to adjust the brake on a Curado DC reel. In fact, it will mess your reel up by changing the factory setting. If you do a You tube search for tackle warehouse and Curado DC overview, the Shimano rep will make this very clear. You also still need to lightly thumb the DC reel when casting.

Both of my DC reels (2021 scorpion) and Metanium DC (bought in 2021) both stopped working. The chip no longer gets triggered during casts. Anyone know a solution to this. I just had my Metanium maintenance by Shimano and it only lasted one day.

The techology, as it stands now, is not adequate. I backlash every time I use my Metanium DC, just not as often as with a non-DC reel.

This didn't explain how the chip knows what rotational speed the spool "should" have. It seems to me you'd have to monitor outgoing line speed and match to that, but even there the chip would have to know how much line is on the reel. Why not make a reel with an electric eye that can "see" when line is lifting from the rest of the line on the spool and brake accordingly? How does a human know if a reel is backlashing? They look!
