I'm so glad I watched this. I used to think I needed to crank the volume of every track to +6 to get it to sound right, I had no idea that the maxed volume adjusted for everything that was lower, meaning the louder I made something, the quieter everything else got when I listened to it in my timeline. I just pulled down all of my track levels, only to realise it's all the same volume as it was when I had most of them at +6, which, when bounced, made everything crackly because the master was peaking at +7. This has helped so much.

Nice explanation, imo better than the previous one about mastering. One suggestion... I'm not good at fast fighting games, I can't follow fast moving things. At about 7:37 you introduce the compressor... luckily you keep it on the same place later on. The same for when you pick something on a drop down menu: for me it would be a lot better when you do it a bit slower, or without fast moving up-down-up-down-click. Maybe I'm the only one... Anyway, your content is great! Tnx for that!🙂

Hi Charles - Thanks for this - it;s really well presented and thought out.
I mix my tracks down to a stereo wav file and then load that into a separate project to do the mastering. However, I've noticed that when I export the files after having used a mastering plugin (Izotope Ozone) on the Stereo out bus, it seems to bypass this on the export. I was just wondering if this is expected behaviour or am I doing something wrong?

Many thanks!!

I'm going nuts. I've recorded and produced in many studios. but I can't seem to get the right balance for vocals with logic

Hey man ! I saw that your true peak for your master is -0.1. I talked with others producers that will say it needs to be -1.0. But are you sure it's correct for a song to be -0.1 ? Is there a risk too peaking after in spotify or others streaming platforms ? Thanks in advance !

I have always wondered, why does the stereo out meter in Logic Pro X always show the color red despite having the L2 preventing it from passing zero? Is that the style of the meter? What are the benefits of seeing the color red at the end of that stereo output?

So, are you mastering the actual project, or the final mix?. to me, the mix is a stereo result of bouncing your mix. Please explain. Thank you in advance.

So you can master within the session, you don't have to bounce it first?

By applying your Mastering chain on the Master Buss, is it totally different to bouncing out the pre-Master stereo file and then Mastering that in a totally separate project with the appropriate effect chain ? Thanks.
I thought that yr supposed to do the mix first, bounce it. Then Master it

How and what are you loading on the master track to make the mastering changes? EQ? You didn’t show what you did at the very start.

I saw another video that says he's never heard a good mix that hit above 10rmt

I just found your newer Mastering video but still cannot understand how you are creating this Master Preset "track" at the bottom of your window. Is it just an audio track that you route your other tracks though to create a master out? I don't get it.

Where do you get the fab filter. I cannot find it on my Logic Pro. Is there something I am missing?

I think your Yamaha speakers are the wrong way round.
