It's interesting how my pinky seems confident to act independently in some contexts like typing, but not in other contexts like just looking at my hands and curling the fingers. When I first managed to curl and flex my pinky independently thanks to this video, the sensation was alien, like I was using an organ I never knew I had!

Various artisans and musicians develop finger independence rather well. Most of all keyboard instruments. I'm a hairdresser and I play piano as a hobby. It is mainly my profession (cutting hair for over 20 years), though, that developed the pinky of my left hand (I'm mostly right-handed and hold the hair in my left) to move separately at all joints on will. Ring finger is just as flexible. My right pinky, however, I can only bend and rotate at the metacarpophalangeal joint seperately, because that's what it mainly needs to do when playing piano. Annoys me, but here you go. I'll try your tips for my right hand. :)

Edit: It's happy to see many people having the same struggles as I did. It's also funny to see that all instruments are hard but people just rate and judge how some are easier than the other which makes me frustrated. Let's just appreciate and hope for the best that we'll overcome this struggle lol. Haha, Pinky go brrrr.

Thank you so much my guy! This was just the video I was looking for because I'm a female magician that is learning cardistry to make my magic routines more entertaining & most of the advanced one-handed cuts & card juggling are essentially impossible with my laughably petite child-like hands unless I can modify the cardistry moves completely to make it successful but to accomplish that will 100% require the independent movement of my pinky but that's something that many male cardists with enormous Shrek hands don't ever consider when teaching in tutorials.
