Hungary supported ALL 4 sanction packages so far. But as for gas and fuel: 85% of the houses do the heating and cooking with NATURAL GAS in Hungary! If that would be turned off, about 8-9 million people would freeze in their homes during the next winter! This is what you want, that 8-9 million people suffer? It is physically impossible to get that much natural gas from anywhere else! Besides that, Russia could easily sell that quantity to other countries, like India. The same applies to OIL, where 60% of it comes from Russia. Of course it would be great to decrease the dependency from Russian energy, but this is impossible to achieve from one day to another.

Some facts: Hungary publicly condemned Russia because of the war against Ukraine from the very first moment. Hungary didn't blocked any sanctions against Russia except the gas imports because they have no alternatives (same with Turkey and other EU countries). Hungary sent 1, 8 million usd humanitarian aid to Ukraine. Hungary gave protection and shelter to hundreds of thousands of ukranian refugees. Hungary allowed NATO units to deploy at the hungarian-ukranian border. Why it matters if Hungary gives weapons to Ukraine, or not while EU(Hungary) and NATO(Hungary) constantly sending more and more military aid to Ukraine?

Yes, sure it does not matter how hard Hungary and Hungarians in general support Ukraine, the refugies, the daily supply of food, medicine and everything they need accross the border. It all does not matter. They WANT Hungary to transport weapons through Hungary. Never mind it would be the most inconvenient way to transport weapons into Ukraine, through the shortest borderline and the Carpathian mountain ranges, they WANT Hungary to do it. Why? Why do they WANT to drag Hungary into it? Would it make any difference? No it would not make any difference to Ukraine as they can get the weapons from any other directions, through Hungary it is the most difficult to deliver weapons. It would make a difference only to Hungary as we would have the crosshair on us too. Thanks, but no thanks. We Hungarians are not to be blamed for this conflict. We did not cause it, we do not contribute to it. But we still support Ukrainans the best we can.

And think for a second how thankfull NATO can be for Hungary not allowing Ukraine to enter NATO before (she vetoed it). Now we, all NATO members would be at war with Russia, would be obliged to send our people into this war. A war that cannot be won. And if it not were for Hungary it we would be in WW III by now. At least Hungary still tries to prevent it. How about the rest of the countries? Seems like they are marching with increasing speed into it trying to drag the sobers with them.

Hungary was one of the greatest looser of world wars:
World War 1: lot of region was detached from the country - even regions where Hungarian speakers were the most
World War 2: our government decided with Austria fights side along of Nazis
Nazi commanders send Hungarian troops to Cannon fodder to Donesk.

When we have chance to leave the Nazis the Allied forces didn't not care to join them

I'm not 100% fan of the government, but I think that they try to avoid to the history repeating itself, they try to keep good relationship west and east, north and south

And there also an economic matter, the cheap Russian gas and oil - just like Germany, Hungary hardly can drop down those dependencies

My country doesn't serve exactly as Zelensky required, but we to receiving / aid / support more than 200.000~ of refugees even in peace times the Ukrainian government violated Hungarian speakers by their language on Ukranien land - the Ukraine "language law"
