He said he wouldn't show us the instructions, yet he decided to show us the one step we needed to understand the internal construction. Very cheeky Ben 😉

He showed the only step that really mattered: people already reverse engineered it and recreated the instructions. You can google "clinton matos lego whale" to find it, on Hypertext

This whale build looks like a mix of old school designer set and modern day creator engineering. It’s got those ratchet joints that you don’t see much anymore while also having those curved pieces that Lego has been using recently. Surprised they didn’t release it as a GWP for the Titanic.

always facinating to see lego sets like this thath almost nobody knows.

Never knew there where so many people who enjoyed reverse-engineering Lego sets/builds. It's almost more fun than building the sets themselves.

You brought up something that I am constantly wondering: why why WHY do bricklink and official Lego names/code numbers have to differ??? When I’m working just with bricklink, it’s fine, it’s whatever, but sometimes bricklink actually doesn’t have what I’m looking for and I need to go to pick a brick in Lego’s official store instead. It’s always SO frustrating when, I dunno, piece number 3061 is actually 12509 for Lego. Like, what?! Where did that come from?! 😂😂 And sometimes something is a bar, or a pole, or a stick, or a shaft, or a handle, AAUUUGH! So annoying. Why didn’t bricklink just directly copy the numbers and names considering they are technically Lego parts, so we should probably be calling them what Lego says they are

Not to invalidate the coolness and exclusivity of this cute whale, but I wonder how much of this lil dude is possible to make with existing pieces? You said we could if we wanted too, maybe we could see some instructions in the future? Judging by the ending thats's a no, so maybe a parts catalogs...? It's such a nice build regardless

5:29 thanks for still showing the only page needed to reverse engineer the entire thing.

Amazing video with a ending that doesn't spoil the building process, very nice.

I actually got something similar, albeit not from any official Lego designer. I met one of the brickink designer program designers and bought a version of his set that was displayed at lego stores. He told me that there were only 2 made and he even signed the thing. It's really interesting because it has some parts that he wanted to be used in it, but for one reason or another, Lego changed the parts.

Technically the unsigned version is rarer

And now I will reverse engineer the set so I can display it with my Titanic just as originally intended. That’s part of the fun I suppose. You shared the important page to help us reverse engineer it ourselves.

bro, I want to see that moc you got to make at the tour! I don't know what limitations there might have been, but I'm sure that it looks great!

Do you also have the Billund Airport set? I bought it just because it was exclusive to Billund but I was astounded when opening the instructions that only 10, 000 were made.

Hello ben cossy, i am here to say that i am on bricklink, making a makuta revamp and then i saw that Turaga's kanohi's bionicle copper version costs 244 USD

It brings up a strange situation where on rarity value alone the unsigned sets should be worth more than the signed sets.
