Should you buy a house or home, single and in your 20s? A fellow YouTuber who I admire, made a comment I wanted to debate. Anthony ONeal ( Channel linked below) stated that women In their 20s shouldn't buy a home ... that they should wait until they get married, but that single women in their 30s should. I understood his point of view but now that I'm a homeowner in my 30's, I share my point of view with why or why waiting for a husband is good advice.

My mom bought a house when she was 26. She married my dad at 30, kept the house, and turned it into a rental property. The income from that house has helped put me and my sister through college and will now help fund my parents’ retirement. My parents have bought two homes together and my dad has invested time and money into that house too. I think it’s crazy that you would wait to build generational wealth all because a man can’t feel like he’s doing his part in providing…if that’s the ONLY way be thinks he can provide, that’s the wrong man for me.

Why are men being so concerned about what women choose to do with their money? If anything a woman should get the most out of life if she has the resources and time. We all have different goals. Investing in a home, you always have income even if you’re not living in it. Especially when applications like air bnb is popular. A woman’s life should not be based around wether she is going to be married lol. That’s the whole point of us wanting equality.

A woman should definitely buy her home under these circumstances: she has the income, been living in her city a long time, and working her career a long time. I would not wait with inflation and if anything it is great for two homeowners (the man) to come together. Buy the house if you can afford to.

I became a home owner at 25 and now 27 honestly rent prices are the same as mortgage repayment prices 😅

A house is a big investment with maintenance costs which can be tough on a single income but it’s possible. No man is moving into a home I bought though. Lol.

I’m done renting apartments! I’m a 27 year old single Black woman, working in my career full-time, about to graduate with my Master’s and jump into my Ph.D. program— and I want a HOUSE. Marriage will come, and I pondered on waiting for a house until marriage, but the more I kept thinking about that the more I kept realizing how CRAZY it was and sounded. I want my house now! Why would I wait on a man to provide me something that I want and a goal I want to achieve??

I'm 50 never married and I purchased my home at 30. My home is paid off. Glad I did. I keep watching segments on single white women who's rent had gone up $300-400 a month. I don't know how they are making it.

I am 26. I wanted to buy a home as soon as I got out of college and got into my career. Or so I thought it would be my forever career. However, if I would’ve bought a home right after graduation, I wouldn’t of been able to financially afford to make a career transition and I would’ve been stuck and miserable. Like you said, you have to do what’s best for you ☺️.

I completely agree with this video! I am a new homeowner myself however 35 and single mom. I'm so glad I bought! If I could of bought in 20s I would have, its about the same as rent smh.. I like Anthony's YT and listen to his podcast however I don't agree with his statement because like you said if able to buy in 20s why not, everyones situation is different and why should a woman wait for a husband to do so? MEN DONT!! Men have homes in 20s and find a wife and move them in.. I'm over men saying what women should and shouldn't do lol When I meet my future husband not sure if will all stay here but love option of renting it out or selling it since I have equity already :)

I always used to have the mentality that I wouldn’t buy a home until I was married..I didn’t mind renting… the older I got I realized yeah there’s no one out there for me lol so F if I’m buying a home.. bought my first home right at the beginning of the pandemic before things went crazy! And I’m glad I did! I was 35 years old buying my first house, and It’s one of the best decisions of my life! I wouldn’t be able to afford a nice home if I would have waited..

When I saw the title, I knew this was stemming from Anthony Oneal lol But I agree with Brittany. do what is best for you. Men do not be intimated by women who already have their homes. And ladies do not wait, possibly wasting your time, if you are ready to purchase your home.

I agree wholeheartedly. This topic has been in my mind for awhile now . I am 32 single no kids and I live in Houston. Due to the price of renting since i was 18 years old living in various cities and states. I've now lived in Houston 2 years and realize this city has everything I need and a ton to offer . I'm considering settling down here for a long while ❤ I'm working deliberately in my credit score and seeking education on homebuying, yet pushing away the notion that I should wait on a potential husband before doing so.

I wouldn't listen to Anthony O'neal in his patriarchy BS about single women should wait until their married to buy a home

1970 women were finally allowed to get credit cards by themselves withOUT the permission of a husband, brother or their father. Too much of the behaviour in society has held back Women and BIPOC.

I fully agree! Another flip side to that is if you wait for marriage to buy a wealth building asset like a home and you end up being a part of the 50% of marriages that end (God forbid but to play it safe logically) one party has to part with the home or share the cost of the sale. So it makes sense to do it whenever you can. It’s not that a house really locks in a relationship.
