Inside Out Turning - Full Version

I have been wanting to teach myself to do inside our turning for a while now. I have been watching videos and reading about the process and finally felt like I was ready to give it a go.
The difference between the full version and the short version of this video is: in the full version, I show the actual turning. The short version removes that and just delivers the description of what I did.
A special thank you goes out to Jay Bates for sending me this beautiful yellow and green poplar.

after watching a couple of your inside out turning videos I think I'm ready to try my own. It looks like a lot of fun it's a very neat design and I look forward to attempting it next time I am at the shop. Thanks for your videos

Bob,

I think it looks great. Most of the inside out turning I’ve seen are tear drops. Adding the rings makes the ornament more pleasing to the eye.

Nice looking piece. Always nice when a learning project looks that good when done. Thanks for sharing.  Fred

great video again. I love the extreme closeup allowing me to get a birdseye view of just how well you handle your tools.

That was pretty cool  I now have a clear idea of the concept  The short gave me all I needed to know and the long showed me how  If I was a turner I would be able to assume a lot more.  This isn't as riveting as being hands on so I think the shorter version would be far more popular.

BOB. BE PROUD, VERY PROUD of this . Your first ever attempt? Hope my first go at it turns out 1/3 as good as this one.

Nice job. I am inspired to try something similar. Perhaps some Christmas decorations for the tree. Thanks.

Nice work.  Lathe work scares the hell out of me and I do metal cutting all day.  That right end looks kind of  small to me.  carefull.  still watching

I'll try the "X" cut.  I've been using a spring loaded spur drive just do I don't have to apply a lot of pressure.
Thanks.  Enjoy your videos.

Great piece. I wonder it you put a wooden ball inside before you glue it up and turn it into a rattle.

Hey Bob ive been watching your videos for quite a while and I'm only just finding this one. As you were turning this I was seeing a future project for you. Since you are into your sodas and cap blanks I thought, how cool would it be to do an inside out soda bottle and fit it with a real cap. Could be a cool little shop decoration piece

would it be safe to make an inside out onement with an opening that would snugly fit Christmas lights in, like on a string!

What size blanks are you using? Thanks

What if you rounded off the edges before the final polish add, basically bevel the edges prior to added the polish. Might not tear up your towels or fingers

I have done quite a few inside out vase's and from experience I will tell you for safety not to go below 1/4 thickness. A lesson I learned the hard way :(
