During difficult and dark times, we often feel an overwhelming sense of isolation, as if the weight of our struggles is ours alone to bear. In these moments, it's important to recognise that authenticity and genuine openness can act as a beacon, guiding us towards a network of support we may not have realised was there.

Authenticity acts as a lantern, revealing people who stand ready to share the weight of our struggles. When we bravely show our true selves, including our vulnerabilities, we uncover an unseen tapestry of connections, woven with threads of support, kindness, and understanding. And in being our true selves, we invite others to join us in navigating the difficulties of life, transforming our solitary journey into a shared path illuminated by the warmth of human connection.

Many months ago I tripped upon the YouTube video and Amanda stopped me in my tracks. I recall her saying: “It’s like camping, ” her tears evident, trying to see the good in a very grave situation. Her spirit took my breath away and broke my heart all at once. “Please Seattle, save this soul, ” I recall thinking. I have thought about her many times since then…so to find Amanda here was such a surprise and like a wish granted. She is my distant neighbor, just 3 hours drive. But her story is that of so many across the West Coast and this country. Hers is a powerful, soft, voice that reminds us that we just need two wishes: strength and for everyone’s basics needs to be met. That’s it. She is a poet… a teacher for us all.

Looking at this woman walking on the beach with her dog, it would be so easy to cast a quick judgment and assume she has had such a simple happy life, with no significant worries, no significant stresses. But to understand she chooses happiness, despite the pain and suffering she has been through is absolutely beautiful.
How important it is for us not to cast judgment on one another, and assume no one understands you or what you went through. How important it is to look into one another, rather than at one another. You never know what that person has to share with you.
If there was no darkness we would not need to be light, but once we choose light, it becomes a beacon to others who need to see it.

I experienced a period of homelessness. I was in Alaska & sold belongings to buy an old camper. My 2 big dogs, a cat & I drove from AK to Washington. I stayed in Port Townsend & Sequim (as I'd never lived near the ocean). It was beautiful. Eventually I had to sell the camper, one dog died, the cat ran away & I ended up living in a beat up tiny car with a tent in the trunk. It was a huge life experience! Thank you for telling your story. So glad you are thriving! Much love
