Digital Echoes 2016
Panel 2-Emerging Digital Projects
Virtual Museums are a combination of advanced technologies with multidisciplinary approaches and access to a wide network of repositories belonging to different museums. As we know, the virtual museum is not a transposition of a physical museum online, it is a instead an innovative provider of multimedia information, open to contribution from different sources, institutional and private citizens, researchers, students and teachers; it is a virtual laboratory, where the participants can experiment new educational projects, etc. The enormous availability of digital content requires to transform silos of data into interactive experiences: linked data, interoperability standards, medata modelling, etc. are the technologies that can support this process. Further, there is a need for new technical solutions that enable historical analysis, narratives and stories to be co-created and co-curated by 'visitors' to the Virtual Museum and cultural heritage professionals. All this is possible thanks to the ICT, and the novel technologies that make possible to experience virtual and augmented reality, using mobile and wearable devices, etc. In this light, photography is a perfect medium to apply these new technologies and to get immersive experiences of our recent past.
