Since the watched used a mix of chromastone dna and diamondhead dna to revive ben, it makes sense that chromastone is the body underneath diamondhead's. The chromastone dna was too damage for ben to reuse again as a normal transformation but the watch needed to slowly revive the dna so it could be used for its overall purpose of reviving a dead alien species

Well here's my theory on why this happened, Chromastone and Diamondhead are from the same planet right?? So they're genetically related but just different enough to be separate beings, when Ben was destroyed as Chromastone the Omnitrix failsafe kicked in in order to save Ben's life and at the time the Omnitrix was still broken due to Ben and Kevin hacking it, my theory is the Omnitrix substituted Chromastone's DNA sample with Diamondhead's sample since they're genetically related, it might've been possible that the Chromastone sample was damaged or glitched out when Ben was killed then revived, so it used Diamondhead as a substitute/ sort of Shell to protect or keep the sample stable

I think it’s that technically this version of Diamondhead is a hybrid of Petrasapien (Diamondhead’s species) and Crystalsapien (Chromastone’s species) DNA, Since the species are closely related.

It’s an alien device that collects dna and then reconstructs a being to match that dna. Stuff like that has got to at least have some instances where the dnas can merge, as well as bug out and re-write parts of you as a separate being while still maintaining you consciousness

I think it works like this: When Ben died as Chromastone against Vilgax the Omnitirx wanted to reapir the user, but since Chromastones species cannot regenerate it used compatible DNA from the data bank to repair the body of Chromastone thus Ben gaining access to Diamondhead again and Chromastone being inside Diamondhead

Chromastone is more of a ultimate version of Diamondhead but its more natural so they kind of different dna but has some similar traits.

Asmith stated that the Omnitrix is like noahs ark. Which mean theres a possiblity that chromostone was brought forth or unleash through some form of mechnism. Asmith could have told him what was needed to unleash chromostone like some sort of triger requirement mechanism.
