After what seems like a decade of neglecting the platformer genre, Sony finally releases an awesome first party platformer. In.... VR..?

Definitely looking forward to when he covers the Astro Bot game on PS5. It's frankly amazing to see a platformer in this generation get so universally adored by literally every single person who's played it and I would love to hear his thoughts on it.

I deeply appreciate the way you really do your damnedest to bring the viewer into the game with you and explain explicitly how it feels to play. I find you are better at describing gamefeel than 99% of game reviewers and it brings me zooming to your videos the second they come out.

Not going to lie, the highlight of this review were the little clips of your VR playing.

The reason people don't talk about it much is probably that those who are looking for cute 3D platformers aren't going to go to the Playstation VR for that and vice versa. If this was on something like Switch instead I'd probably get more attention.

Wait, you do platformers, right?
Man, I'd love to see you tackle the Klonoa series.

some solid proof that cute, wholesome platformers or "collect-a-thon" games can still work. I don't think something like that can truly fall out of style permanently.

Fun Fact at the end of the first portion of the Credits sequence (the interactive one), two final names pops up under the Special Thanks section. These two names are in fact two fictionnal characters created by a famous French Youtuber (Joueur du Grenier, the French version of the AVGN).

Plus in the level with the torchlight, you can use it to uncover some nice and funny easter eggs (one of them is a reference to Undertale).

I really love this game, there are times where I've laughed a lot because it was geniunely funny. It's the kind of game that is too short not because of the lack of levels but because it's so good, we end wanting more and more levels.

With the sheer scale of these boss battles, now I wonder how a Shadow of the Colossus VR would be like.

The Soundtrack EVOLVES as you Progress, so the Songs you hear are NOT the same throughout. Astro's Playroom for PS5 FINALLY let's non-VR gamers hear this AWESOME Composition! Thank you Kenneth M C Young!

Brilliant use of the VR mic, haha. Also, very funny. Yeah, the fact that you are included in the game world and you control the bot seems really fun.

Wow, thank you Mr. Rad. I've been looking for a new 3D platformer to play for some time now, and this one went completely under my radar. From what you showed off I was extremely impressed, and when you were talking about the dual use on the laser hover, it reminded me of something I once heard in game development, where instead of over-complicating a control scheme, it's more important to make your already existing functions have multiple purposes. I don't know if you'll come across this comment, but I just wanted to say that since I stumbled across your reviews, I have been consistently stunned by your content. It's rare to see a youtuber go as in depth into their subjects as you do, the first one that really comes to mind other than you would be Matthewmatosis, and I find that to be an extremely high bar. People like you really inspire me to be more than a standard 9-5 worker, and really push myself to be better. Maybe one day I'll make a game and I'd love for you to just stumble upon it years from now when I can actually produce it, and hopefully you'll enjoy it, haha. Again, thank you for all your hard work, and I anticipate your next video!

Finally got myself a psvr yesterday and so far Astrobot is the purest and most precious thing ever. I feel like it’s been so long since I simply enjoyed playing a game, taking the time to just enjoy the scenery, to look at the little footprints my robot friend leaves on sand, the effects when he runs through grass and his cute little noises. This game really makes me feel like a kid again, I did these exact things when I first played Zelda the wind waker when I was seven and the games that are able to replicate this feeling are so rare and important to me. I don’t know if I would have bought it without this review since I’m generally not that much into platformers and I tend to be close-minded about the genres of games I enjoy, your channel helped me open up and try new things, thank you !

Also in the first water level when Astrobot grabbed my face and just stayed there being cute I almost started crying because it was just so frickin adorable

With the new Astro's Playroom game coming on PS5, I hope this becomes a bigger franchise.
Maybe even become the PlayStation's mascot!

This has to be one of the most wholesome episodes on this channel. Just pure, unfiltered joy.

I honestly thought it said "Astroy Boy" instead of "Astro bot". Huh, I wonder how Mr.Rad would look like if he wore an Astro Boy costume? And also, MASSIVE ASTRO BOT ORGY

I'm getting a psvr for my birthday so thanks for letting me know to get this game with it!

Astro Bot just puts the biggest, dumbest smile on my face. He's cute on his own, but all the little details they put into him like the waving makes him all the more adorable.

I would argue that Tearaway/Tearaway Unfolded is another great Sony first-party platformer made in recent years, and it also has a few moments where I felt a connection to in game characters... But that's Media Molecule, and there is a very good reason they're my favourite developers.

...But yeah, this game looks utterly brilliant, and the soundtrack is legit excellent. I need to grab myself PSVR for this.
