Casual viewers don't like it because they start the story slowly. There are only few actions and too many "talking" in the anime. They usually use 9 episodes as "discussion" and then 3-4 episodes for big fights. If you don't have gaming experience or don't like this kind of "talking anime", people will think this anime is just wasting time to watch.

Personally, I like the parts when they have long discussions with each other. So, I can keep watching and enjoy it.

Log Horizon & Grimgar are two best isekai game story/anime so far.

Log Horizon focuse more in the macromanagements. Managing community, city, and later the whole japan server aka nation.

Grimgar is about micromanagement

Log Horizon is an excellent series. You shouldn't compare it to SAO. That would be similar to comparing Star Wars with Star Trek. Enjoy either of the anime series and the soundtracks for the joy they can give you.

Log horizon for me back 3years was kinda boring cause of the politics and when I just completed it now I can say its a unique anime on its on and not like sao and all about isekai fighting rather mix of all and all character gets their fair share of c character dev which was the reason I loved op and not only focuses on mc
