As you are a 2a lawyer I offer you one word, bear. The importance of that word can not be overestimated. What does the phrase, keep and bear arms mean historically? Most people understand it to mean carry which is entirely possible however there is another meaning. The word, bear, does mean carry but it also means to employ or put something into action as in the phrase bring to bear. That being said any arm that a person can bring into service is protected by the second amendment. The first known use of the phrase bring to bear was in the late 1600s so that was an acceptable definition at the writing of the bill of rights.
