Shout out to Joma for allowing me to pick the watches I think you'll be into. I know that I'm into this one! Even without the, cough, sapphire. Cheers, Jody

I don't get Seiko and Orient hanging on to mineral crystals. Sapphire is available and cheap as seen on hundreds of Chinese watches. If the vintage look is what they want, go with plastic - at least it can be polished with toothpaste.

I have the AF02004W that came on a leather strap. It actually came in a very nice long watch box as opposed to the square the bracelet version comes in. I understand that the power reserve is a signature complication for an Orient Star. I don't mind it especially where they have put it and I find it very useful when I'm not wearing the watch for a couple of days. I also have an Orient Star basic date both are virtually spot on in terms of time keeping time gaining only two to three seconds over the course of a week.

Jodi, as a WIS (watch idiot savant) and having owned 2-300 watches, Orient Star is a fantastic line. The value per $ is very good for a non-micro brand. I own 3 and haven't paid more than $400 for any of them, and I'd put them against 6-800+$ Swiss watches any day of the week (except for movement finishing, which leaves a little bit to desire).

P.S. My wife knows when I'm watching your videos, she can hear your voice from the intro lol.

I really like the look of this, and so refreshing not to have to look at just one more dive watch!! I used to see these for under 300 dollars and I can't remember why I did not get one a few years ago. I have every kind of watch but a dress watch. I do like the Seiko you had in a thumbnail. The red one which is also a 38.5 mm diameter I think is close in size range and does come with a leather strap.

Hi Jody, thanks for a great review. I am still yet to pull the pin on an Orient, as I have previously been interested in the Diver's versions, but bought Just One More Seiko instead. And whilst this Orient is nice, and it's great to see them offering this style, - that Seiko Presage in red - OMG. What a beautiful specimen that is. I just prefer that one so much more, even with the standard date window. Me and my Seiko's! Cheers mate.

Haven't watched your videos in a while and I must say the new intro, the other graphics, the camera and lighting set-up; all of those are so much better, a lot has improved. If you did it yourself, kudos! If you hired someone, then you got your money's worth.

I like having a power reserve though more so on a hand wind

It’s not a deal maker or deal breaker

But grand seiko has started putting the power reserve on the back of the movement visible with a display caseback

Which is excellent, it’s a useful complication but it’s not always worth the dial clutter

Jody, I agree with you on your review. The chemically blued hands with the white dial just makes the whole thing pop. My only niggle is with Jomashop. I got burned by them and another YouTuber named Tennessee Mike is going through it with them now. I would buy this one, but not from them. Thank you for the great review!

Id'd love they made seconds hand longer and bent like the retro dress watches have. They missed that extra retro vibe there with seconds hand. It is nice mineral but even if it were acrylic crystal it would fit the theme fully. Love that watch.

Wait, this watch has been on my wishlist for so long. Thanks!

Black lizard! So classy. It’s on my 1966 Seikomatic which looks a lot like this watch - or vice versa - and it works perfectly.

Love the T-Shirt there Big-Yin.
I got this watch on my 'must get' list...and the Orient Star Diver, that Green/Yellow dialed one is fandabidozi.

I just love this '56 seamaster indexes and smp-like bracelet. Well done!

I have this watch for years now and I love it. I learned from the power reserve that you can wind an automatic watch very fast by putting it in your front pocket and walk a few hundred meters. Without power reserve I didn't know this.

Gorgeous watch. Perfect dimensions too, compared to regular Orients..

I have this in the gold hand version on a tan strap and it’s drop dead gorgeous.

I have the black dial version of this and agree that it’s a beauty. The dial and bracelet especially are very nicely finished . The movement decoration looks really nice with the naked eye so was surprised to see your macro shots! 😲Or maybe I need new glasses !👓
Thanks for the review.

Wish this was a sapphire and a no date, no power reserve therefore. Brilliant share regardless, cheers mate.

Sorry Jody I love the date and power reserve. Pity it's not a sapphire crystal. A personal opinion - I'd have liked some little dots of lume by the hour markers and a sliver or lume on the hour and minute hand. Then it truly would be a 50's-60's throwback dress watch plus some practicality too.
