The problem with the German peace initiative (Britain can keep the colonial Empire, but accept the new "reality" in Continental Europe) was the same, as with the current Russian initiative. How can you trust in a person (Hitler or Putin) who broke his promise. Hitler promised that the Czech claim is his last claim in Münich, Putin signed the Budapest memorandum, which guaranteed the sovereignty of Ukraine.
