This was a good(?) workout for my neck, but it was definitely worth it to provide the most accurate comparison shots. And as per the feedback on my Action 5 PRO video, I have stuck with the official LUTS to remove any colour grading bias from my amateur display referred abilities. I still have both cameras so let me know if you have any questions about either! 🎥

Just tested my DJI Action 5 Pro for the first time and the battery life coming from a GoPro 8 was... insane.. i kept thinking.. its still recording? My 8 would literally do 30 minutes of footage.. i recorded 95 min on the DJI with 40% of battery life left! Its awesome just being able to record the whole time without being paranoid and having to keep starting and stopping.

DJI's vs GoPro's footage in low light almost looks like an original vs youtube compressed video comparison.

I’m not in the market, but those who are will benefit from your typically thorough and unbiased review.

Sold! Between the cheaper price, smaller and lighter format,
Nicer video quality,
Internal storage,
Better battery life,
Better charger,
Better photo ( as I see from other reviews ),
More color accuracy,
Better screens and touch ( it really doesn’t take much to beat the GoPro crappy touch screen, I believe no modifications have occurred since the hero 5 black )
I was worried about the “too sharp/fake looking” stock footage on the DJI but I think with manual settings it can be adjusted as in this video and look better than the GoPro.
Thanks for the video, I was waiting for a rider review to decide as the normal vlog style review are just too far from the MTB experience.

great review - thx - helped me decide as a MTBer to go with the DJI!

Terrific video, it's kind of hard to believe that GoPro are still changing their battery designs every generation or two! I'm a recent DJI convert, however I prefer to use an under visor mount so I would love for them to release a lower profile mount that is still magnetic.

Incredible work as always. I bought a Hero 10 last year, and it sucked, and then I exchanged for a Hero 11, which honestly wasn't better, but didn't return it for some reason. The biggest thing was battery life. Even with enduro batteries, it would last at most half the day at the park, for example. It's too bad I've sunk some costs over there, but I'll be strongly considering a DJI for next season.

Liked the GoPro footage in the "good" light situations a slight bit more. Lol'd at the GoPro low light footage, that wasn't great. Audio definitely goes to the DJI by a wide margin

I switched from GoPro to DJI but if I put it in on my chest mount the stabilization is terrible, GoPro is much better, have you noticed this? with dji i have to use rocksteady+ which reduces the field of view

You rock Dale! Great review, the DJI camera easily bests the GoPro, though it's a fine camera too. Next: please test DJI's new e-mountain bike!

The GoPro Hero 13 has that more blur effect when you're going around a corner, while the OA 5 Pro doesn't and looks bland. But I still went for the OA 5 Pro 😂😂

I have set my brand new camera settings by following your setup from a previous video, thanks @DaleStone. For someone interested, I can say I was able to record for 180 minutes in m10bit until the device shutted down due to battery. Tell me which action camera nowadays equal or exceed that autonomy (in same conditions) and I will give you a gift ... 😉😁

I bought a GoPro12 and returned it after 3 days because the battery was overheating after less than 8 mins on 4k60 and 15 mins on 4k30. GoPro might be the first of its kind but others are better now

From what i can tell, DJI looks more real although bit tighter FOV and GOPRO looks more 'fun'

You can buy better gopro screws everywhere, no tools needed. Also the max lens mod superview (second widest option) is very usable and wider than other action cams. The hyperview (widest option) is super distorted.

I would totally crash trying to wear both at the same time.

If you're going based purely off of the picture quality/colours/etc I think the DJI has the win.

But I wonder, what are the respective shutter speeds? The GoPro footage makes you look faster. There's more motion blur around the peripherals of the camera's vision. Typically when you talk about 30 vs 60 fps you prefer 30 because of the fact it makes you look faster - curious if you noticed this and what you think between these 2 cameras? Is the shutter speed on the GoPro significantly slower? Or am I just feeling the different image stabilization algorithms? The DJI to me has a very 60fps feel to it - but it also feels like something's just.. off about the way it records? Maybe I'm just used to years of MTB YouTube with a GoPro.

I've been using an action 4 for a year now and I'll never go back to a GoPro
