Definitely lightened the makeup but didn't enhance it's appeal. I'd probably only use this technique if I purchase an expensive foundation that's too dark for my skin. This would be a great hack for that

It def looks a bit cakey. I think the reason it works on lighter skin tones is because it creates blank slate on your face to add foundation on. For brown skin tho probs don’t do that 😅

White can neutralize discoloration on the face but it’s also gonna desaturate wherever you put it so the foundation might look truer to color in the bottle but on the face it can look like a highlighted mask. It’s a drag technique to use pure white for a strong highlighted look but if you have darker skin then you’d have to add some form of color to resaturate the highlight to avoid looking ashy in person. But in videos or pictures or a stage where strong lights can wash you out it looks great and adds lots of dimension.

I could MAYBE see it as a way to kind of backwards contor with extra coverage, but all over is a nah, your normal foundation is perfect

i think it mixed with the white paint and that's why it looks so much lighter. maybe try applying it with a sponge or something that's more gentle to prevent mixing

I feel like this technique forces you to go very full coverage with foundation in a way that I wouldn’t want to. But people are really making it look good!

I seen a makeup artist say you need to use a shade darker when using this method

I think you’re supposed to use a darker shade to make it match your skin shade. Because obviously if you add white to your foundation it’ll just lighten up. Also the white spread on the model is very different in shade range to the white you have.

I agree! I also think the white under would look cakey throughout the day

I think for brown-ebony tone skin, you use a shade darker than your natural tone/makeup, on top the white face base.

You should let the base dry first. The technique makes sense because you even out any discolouration. If you put on foundation afterwards, it will look like all your skin has the same colour.

I think if she had used a foundation a shade darker or two from her regular shade it would have looked better, but it definitely doesn’t look the best

Maybe just for the areas you want brighter, like the under eye area. But maybe a more peach or yellow base would make this work for brown skin?

I've seen other darker youtubers try this and it looked stunning on them so I dont think its skin tone thatd the problom like other people are commenting. I think it just lookds good on some and not on others and thats okay. ❤❤❤

if you leave the white base to dry it will work better

I think this hack is mostly for people who have a different face color than neck/rest of body mainly. Also I think you need a foundation that truly matches your skin not only when it’s blended

i do recall seeing a black woman try this, and her skin looked flawless, but i think she was using a very full coverage foundation
