I see it as a copilot more than a pilot. It won't replace the programmer, but it's a nice tool to create function or small part of code that doesn't work. It can gives pointer and new ideas. But you still have to understand the logic behind all of the code. Very fascinating tool and it'll only be better. Knowing how to work with GPT might even be asked for in future dev jobs. Who knows.

For someone who struggles with writing, I found it helpful to give it the points that I wanted it to talk about. I then had someone compare it to a paper I wrote earlier and had a friend read them both. They found mine too wordy and repetitive and liked most of the other one except for some grammar issues and weird syntax issues. So yeah I agree that you need to still learn but it can definitely be helpful with starting you off.

I first heard of ChatGTP on the WAN Show on the Linus Tech Tips YouTube channel a couple of weeks ago. It has definitely caused me to come up with some ideas for how it can be used, for everything from programming to literary writing to just brainstorming. However, like you, I also definitely see where this would be a bad tool for beginning programmers to rely on. I have encountered fellow students in my GCU classes that seem to be the "stackoverflow coders" that you referred to. While it is sometimes necessary to Google a way of programming a certain task that you are unfamiliar with, it should never be used in an actual project until you fully understand how it works.

Bytheway this chatbot is limited to access based on region. I live in east Africa Ethiopia and it did not work here. I wish they would fix it, I try using a VPN but it will ask phone number based on the given country. the confirmation code work with the phone number. it should be by email for easy access.
