Not My Favorite Book of Nations by Beautiful Feet

What do you think?

I love teaching my kids about the world, specifically because I want them to have a heart for the Nations. I am less interested in facts and statistics than I am about the people groups that live in these locations. And I'm worried that books like this are why many people say they don't like geography. Instead I prefer to be introduced to a country culture and their traditions. I want to know the majority religion so I know better how to pray for the Christians there.

If someone from another country picked up this book and read the facts about America, they would think we see Buffalo everywhere we go and that we eat cranberries, pecans and sunflower seeds regularly.

This isn't a slam on this book. I can see where it serves its place and purpose I just wish it offered more.

Perhaps the issue is that this is a secular book and we have different goals when teaching children about the world.

I just find it impressive that the book includes an entry on *every* country, though I'm curious what it defines as a country. Does it include segments on Palestine or Taiwan, for example.

Regardless, this book seems to me like a servicable introduction for young people who are curious about the world. What it lacks in depth of information it clearly attempts to make up for in scope. A fair bit better than a simple index, but no substitute for proper research. Then again, given the audience it markets itself toward, it would appear that inciting inspiration to seek further knowledge was the main mission statement of the authors, rather than becoming just another textbook the teacher would dole out.
