"Level 5" wall finish is a construction industry spec defining a gypsum board wall finish (drywall) that has a specific level of flatness then has additional finishing (mud over the whole surface then sanded) to further achieve a high level of smoothness. It's not an abnormal or obscure level of wall finish, but it is the LED panel manufacturer demanding a good wall flatness for their system to be mounted on. Given the issue of building movement (which is normal and unavoidable below a few millimeters with new construction/major remodeling), I am surprised that these systems aren't mounted on their own framework/panel which would then be mounted on the standard wall framing/finish to isolate the panels from wall/building movement.

Plot Twist: The Installation Guy just didn't want to deal with mounting another $300, 000+ TV that can take up to 3 days so he told Linus it sucked.

Poor linus. He'll just have to settle for his 77" OLED. =(

Linus is getting a taste of our lives. Him really wanting something he can’t justify paying so much for. Is just like the viewers wishing they could buy a 3090 or a foldable phone

I'm all too familiar with Christie after working at a theater for 5 years

The Christie projector sounds pretty cool, would make for an interesting video too. ;O)

I work in AV at a University and one of my counterparts at a different facility had video walls put in. They are a nightmare. They have to be restarted all the time to sync up again, they fail regularly, and as Linus said, you have to color match the panels when you have to replace them, most of all they don't look that great, especially on the seems. They don't look awful, but projector technology is so good at this point, there are very few circumstances that justify a video walls.

I hope Luke is living the millionaire life. Linus over here buying mansions and now budgeting a 1million dollar tv.

THe Krispy Projector sounds dope.
And theoretically, it has the same limitations als all other fibre based tech.
So as long as the radius for going around a corner is not too tight, the distance is theoretically unlimited.

if you want to game on a BIG BOI screen just rent a cinema room and take it as an opportunity to explain how cinema projectors work and how they differ from household projectors.

....new video idea???

100% this is an instance of at some point you can throw money at something until it just becomes a fucking headache again.

One of linus's comment's got me thinking.Sitting in my chair watching netfilx 4k on my 17.3 inch laptop, on my lap...then looking up at my old 42 panny Plasma across the room on my wall. That laptop screen on my lap is almost the equivelent of a 65" TV on the wall...everything is relative i suppose !

The last part is pretty interesting. I'd like to see the correlation between total views, negative comments and likes/dislikes on a review of a "Price Doesn't Matter" product. I wonder if there's just a section of people looking at reviews for info on these products before they go out and buy the thing.

I worked at a place with a video wall - older DLP style. We had to pay for monthly tune-ups to correct for individual panel color drift. Also - on the projector point... I game alone on my projector every day. I absolutely love playing games at this size, and find it near impossible to move back to a desktop display to game on.

👏👏👏 Just build a state of the art balls to the walls 300k theatre. New projector comes out? Replace the projector and review, speakers same etc etc etc. You could sustain an entire channel on home theatre technology alone.

I find low to mid range coverage far more interesting than high end stuff.

I LOVED the video you guys did a year or two ago comparing low end 4k tvs where Linus had to guess the prices.

Linus is so sad to not do a full send and get the wall lol i feel the pain of accepting that sometimes the toys are not worth it and can be overkill 🥺

I appreciate Linus' transparency. - Well, LTT or LMG has always been pretty "self-aware" and said it how it is, but he's just full-on talking about how he tries to make enough content and milk it for all it's worth if projects cost so much. - I mean, that's just how it is.

Video walls are for commercial applications. Idk why Linus would ever entertain that idea. Glad to see a professional talked him out of it.

Projector playoffs?

As for why brands send halo products to influencers, it's because the association of the lower tiers with the performance, aesthetics, or features of the halo product leads the uneducated customer to think they're buying a status symbol when they buy a 1050Ti. Car companies made racecars to sell tan sedans, the same goes for TVs. It's not a direct comparison, but Sony used to sell their TVs by pointing out the fact that their cameras were probably used for whatever you're gonna watch.
