Not to be that guy but it’s not really for opening cuts it really is just to add speed and power to the punch, while also protecting your hands (rotating your arm engages your forearm and adds more stability in your wrist) and chin (the corkscrew motion brings your shoulder up to cover your chin).
A lot of other martial arts use the same technique.
