I saw Liza in 1985. She was one of the best concert dollars I ever spent. She had that charisma that her mother had and the singing and dancing chops too. She was really into getting the crowd to it's feet. She was totally incredible. She's an American treasure. I would have loved to have seen Judy. She never tired of questions about her mother and took comparisons as a compliment. She also always had my respect for finishing raising her younger brother and sister after Judy's tragic death.

I think I've said this before, Fil, but it's such a pleasure watching a musician taking pleasure in the performance of an artist whose style is very different from their own.

She inherited her pipes from her Mother and is a legend in her own right. Love her!! 💖

I hope Liza sees this analysis. At this time in her life, she will really appreciate the thoughtfulness in this presentation. Once again, thank you Fil.

Frank Sinatra once said, that every time Judy performed, she died a little each time. She stands in a class, all her own.🤘🏽❤️🌱✌🏼

I saw Liza in 2009, flew from Nz to Sydney. Best money I ever spent. Man sitting next to me said "I would ask you if you're enjoying yourself but...." as I was crying and smiling and clapping

She comes by that power honestly, as her mum had a voice that could make a statue weep. Such talent could've been wasted, but it wasn't thankfully. Did you feel it reach deep down inside of you? I always do.

I saw Liza Minelli purely by accident. I was doing a coat checking event & she was performing. I saw the whole performance for free. She was magnificent.

I've followed Liza for awhile. She has always been a consummate professional. I played my moms LP of cabaret until it was well worn and I had to replace it with a new CD. Liza was under her mother's tutelage since childhood. Just Watch Judy Garland's Christmas special. Liza was already a gifted performer, mixing it up with her mom and guests like Mel Torme at only 17 years old. Fil, your dissection of Liza's vocals as well as the comparison with Judy's vocals was wonderful. Your incredible ability to pinpoint a vocalists particular qualities is stellar! Thank you.

The first time I heard and saw Judy Garland sing "The Man That Got Away" in the 1954 "A Star is Born", I was stunned. It was spectacular and has never been matched.

Liza is not a vocalist, she’s a great artist, telling a story acting the lyrics out in Her own way, style. Never compare garland to another singer because Judy was the finest actress and singer. Liza is loaded with talent and in my opinion under rated even with Oscar, Emmy, Grammy, and every other award under the sun . Still Garland was the greatest live performer ever . Liza is at her zenith here vocally. The actual sound of garlands voice was so distinctive . So is Liza’s singing / talking voice . Lorna actually has more talent for singing but doesn’t have the acting ability . Both are great and should be celebrated for their own contribution .

Liza is one of the most underrated singers. She’s sensational.

I read in one of her biographies, Judy mentioned that when she was pregnant with Liza, she could already that she was a performer because of the way she was kicking. Thanks for a splendid and informative analysis of Liza’s performance. I appreciated every nuance that you pointed out—your thorough approach is massively appreciated! You hit the nail on the head when you mentioned that we could go on for years analyzing and comparing the similarities/differences between the voices of mother and daughter. Nevertheless, there’s no question that they were immensely talented singers and performers. Thanks for this wonderful analysis, Fil!

Liza uses drama a bit differently than mom Judy, in that her dynamic body language matches the story she's telling. Judy's dramatic delivery, on the other hand, was tied to the words she sang. She was a great drama coach (unconsciously) to Liza in this regard, and mentioned in an interview how happy she was that Liza had more freedom of expression than she herself was permitted.

Hey Fil, great piece on Liza; She is totally unique and wonderful. For me there cannot be a comparison to Judy. The Divine Miss Garland is in a musical universe of her very own. Her talent was so profound that, like Mozart, or Elvis, there will never be a way to calculate the miracle. Thank you for this offering. You enrich us music lovers with every

I have always adored how Liza FEELS every song she sings! And I've always loved her personality. Thanks for this one, Fil!

I watched Ed Sullivan and countless variety shows and it was so very clear that even as a very young child every once in a while a really powerful singer would command the stage and just take you away. She was definitely among them. Fabulous talent.
