As an American who lives in Edinburgh…I can say that this couple has picked a poor selection of restaurants that are all tourist traps.

Clearly the tourist traps! Edinburgh has abundance of great food! Like my local in Bruntsfield (Tempo Perso)

As a local my advice is the chippy or the chip shop as you would call it, DO NOT get a battered mars bar unless you want to be and look like a tourist, do what we do, go to the chippy order chips chesse and curry sauce and thank me later! But seriously those are all off the royal mile and are tourist traps, oink is good but if you want to be a local or eat local try greggs or a chippy chips cheese and brown sauce is a local must have before during or after a night of drinking, if you really want advicr we eat alot of subway there are like 6 subways in and around the royal mile, that should tell you how popular it is or if you want an awesome bowl of ramen ask where the pear tree pub is to any local, go to the noddle place opposite the pear tree, then head back up the street to try some amazing scoopz ice cream, we dont just eat chippys and haggis ya know, I like my day out with friends to redbox noodle bar and then to scoopz to finish off the day its a few hours of good food and fun, besides not all us scots like haggis, I am full scot and can tell you I cannot stand it, the smell and taste is not my cup of tea, but my nana loves the stuff so whos to say what is good and isnt, but just ask a random local on the street, you will be pleasantly surprised, we arent all trainspotting goons and will happily help and recomend actual local places we eat nae puttering round the hedge with us I can asure you!

If you're in that part of Edinburgh you will pay a premium for anything that close to the Royal Mile or Castle, for a few minutes walk head to George Street.

don't forget no one ever asks what the contents of a sausage are before choosing the vegetarian alternative. At least with a haggis they tell you. And it's fantastic

The Mussel Bar in Rose Street is always mobbed and the selection of delicious sea food is excellent. You should book in advance. A must for all our family when we visit Edinburgh 3 or 4 times a year.

Would recommend bubba q it's American food but it's my favorite burger in Edinburgh, although the food in Glasgow is 10x better and cheaper.
