The first round of the 123rd US Open has seen the first and second 62s ever recorded in the championship. Rickie Fowler recorded 10 birdies en route to the first 62 in US Open history, at the Los Angeles Country Club, which had never hosted a major before. Just 20 minutes later, California native Xander Schauffele recorded a bogey-free 62, to match Fowler. Both players were five clear of the field with Scottie Scheffler and Bryson DeChambeau among a group at 3 under. Six players had shot a round of 63 in the US Open’s 123-year history.
