Staying the Night at the Haunted Jerome Grand Hotel - Famous Ghost Town in Arizona!

Staying the night at one of the most haunted hotels in Arizona - the Jerome Grand Hotel. What makes this place especially fascinating is it wasn't originally a hotel, this structure that looms above the old mining town of Jerome started as a hospital. Built in 1927, it was one of the most innovative hospitals in the western United States treating thousands of men who labored in the copper mines. It also served as a tuberculosis ward.

When the copper mines dried up in the early 1950s, the hospital closed its doors and sat abandoned for decades on the side of the mountain. It wasn't until the early 1990s when the property was purchased and renovated into a hotel - The Jerome Grand Hotel opened it's doors to the public in 1996.

While the hotel offers comfortable accommodations, breathtaking views, and easy access to the historic mainstreets of Jerome, AZ...guests began realizing that there may be something or someone else enjoying the hospitality. After all an estimated 9,000 people died in this structure while it operated as a hospital...

The Jerome Grand Hotel is said to be one of the most haunted hotels in Arizona and the USA. So join me, as I check-in and prepare to stay the night with the spirits. I also will take you on a tour of the streets of Jerome, because it's not just the hotel that's haunted - the entire town is claimed to be rife with paranromal activity. Jerome is one of the largest Ghost Towns in Arizona and used to be known as the Wickedest Town in the West.

This is part one of a two part series - the second video will cover my night exploration of the haunted Jerome Grand Hotel.

When my kids were little we use to roller skate on the 3rd floor of the then Jerome Hospital. I love our memories living in a Jerome 70's, ~20005... Folks from around the world discovered Jeromes interesting unique shops, and Restaurants all thru the years, we lived there.

Great video, what memories! I love this haunted hotel. So here's my ghost story about my experience. It's pretty crazy. Most hotels are booked on my birthday (Feb. 13th) due to Valentines Day, but we ended up in Jerome. (My first time there) So Philip the desk guy was there and he said all the rooms were taken, but while we were standing there, someone called and cancelled! Anyway, Philip was telling us history about the hotel etc. So we went up the Otis elevator and the minute I entered the elevator, I got a stabbing pain in my head, I thought oh great, it's my birthday and I'm getting a migraine! I had to sit down on the bench in the elevator.
So Philip had given us a video to watch (Unexplained Mysteries, featuring the Jerome Grand Hotel) so they proceed to mention in the video that the old maintenance man (Claude Harvey) had his head crushed by the elevator! I think I had picked up on that!! So we decide to go to get food (the restaurant was closed) we were in the room and I told my boyfriend we should watch "Somewhere in Time" and I called Philip at the front desk and asked about the movie, and he said "OMG Get down here right now!" we did and he showed up the brochure for the hotel "The Jerome Grand, the "Somewhere in Time" Hotel" Philip looked at me and said "you're definitely going to have an experience here. Anyway we really hit it off with Philip. He said sadly the movie is rented, but we could go check out other movies. I opened a different door where the movies where, and the only movie in the drawer was "Somewhere in Time" lol Then we bought some postcards and Philip freaked out again at my change (1 cent) which at the time I didn't realize that it was the same date from the penny in Somewhere in Time that sent Richard Collier back to the future (I still have the penny taped in my scrapebook!) It was years later that I ran to the scrapebook and checked the date of the penny and had to laugh. Also in the movie when Richard looks at the pocket watch the time is 11:20 and when we looked at our clock in the room it was 11:20 lol
Long story short. Our room was beautiful and spacious and had a double balcony that overlooked the valley. And the next morning when we woke up it had snowed and the view from the balcony was incredible!
We did a seance in the bathroom and the candle blew out and we heard a door slam in the living room. We roamed the halls at all hours. Philip took photos with us sitting behind the front desk at the old phone operating system. We heard a lot of crazy noises in our room. The photo of me at the bench at The Haunted Hamburger came back from being developed (before cell phones) and it had a large white object sitting by me. When it was time to leave the next day, Philip told me to call and he'd send me a copy of the Unexplained Mysteries. A month later I called the hotel and asked for Philip, they said no one named Philip worked there, in fact no males had been front desk clerks ever...I got goose bumps and when we got those photos back, in all the photos with Philip at the old phones, he's not in them!!
I stayed at The Jerome Grande, two more times and the third time, my boyfriend and I had horrible nightmares about being in an insane asylum. We tossed and turned and had cold sweats all night. I would definitely visit again but not sleep there. If anyone else had any Philip desk clerk experiences please comment lol

We just stayed in Room 40 last night. We did experience some things. My wife saw the door know turn and thought it was me but I was on another floor looking for some paranormal activity. When we went to bed, I felt like a small animal stepping around my feet. I did hear there was a cat that Haunts the hotel. We did eat at the Haunted Hamburger and it was really good

Great video! I have been to Jerome twice and I have to say, it’s one of my favorite small towns. My mom and dad are actually going back this September for their 40th anniversary!

I live in Cottonwood just below the city of Jerome at the base of Mingus Mountain. I’ve seen the hotel several times and drives to Prescott and back watching this video makes me wanna go check this hotel out on the inside. It’s very fascinating and nostalgic.

Was just in there a few days ago. Was chatting with the lady at the front desk about the history of it, hearing about it being haunted and all. She mentioned it being a hospital in the past (which I wasn’t even aware of) Said to her, a lot of people must’ve died in this building then. She said yeah, over 9, 000! The toxic smoke from the chimney down in the mine had caused a lot of people to become severely ill and die. Wreaking havoc on people’s lungs and all. Didn’t expect to hear a figure like that, when it came to the number of deaths. Cool town

Great video, Erik! Appreciate it. Jerome, AZ is the real deal- especially the Jerome Grand Hotel. I just stayed their for the first time last month with a buddy of mine. We did a Haunted Arizona road trip, taking a loop around the entire state and staying in the most haunted hotels. But out of all of them, the Jerome Grand was head and shoulders above the rest as far as having the creepy factor. I actually saw a shadow figure when I was walking between the Clubhouse and the Jerome Grand Hotel. I've been ghost hunting for 25+ years and never had a ghost sighting until my visit to the Jerome Grand Hotel, and I've been to some of the world's most haunted places- Greyfriar's Kirkyard in Edinburgh Scotland, Mary's King Close, Gettysburg, the Old Prison in St. Augustine, Florida, Prague, Haunted Hill House in Mineral Wells, Texas, Skinwalker Ranch, Tower of London, etc. At the Jerome Grand Hotel, we stayed in room 26- the old X-Ray room. Kept the lights on all night!

We stayed here about 10 yrs ago. A big group of us on the second floor. Two of the rooms(one was mine) the doors would be wide open every time we'd come back to the room. So they moved us to the first floor and it stopped. At night people cough in their sleep. You can hear it in the hallways late at night. On the tour we were all in the surgery room listening to the guide and the double doors started to move then just one side opened all the way. Needless to say it spooked us a bit. If you wander around from 1am to 4am you'll hear a lot of weird stuff going on. We heard what sounded like a metal cart with metal pans rattling down the hall. But when you get to that floor it stops and nothings there. I thought it was a pretty cool stay. I have some great pics and videos from it. My parents, not so much. LOL I'd go back, but they have no desire it spooked them. And my dad didn't believe in that stuff, it changed his mind.

It's been some years since I've been to Jerome. Every time we rode the Harleys up we ate lunch at the Haunted Hamburger.

Last time we went to Jerome i caught a full bodied apparition in one photo and i was taking a video of one of the buildings and my husband's phone started playing music on its own. It was interesting but super cool. Apparently my dads family is originally from jerome and owned a saloon even!

I used to go in that hotel when it was an abandoned Hospital. It was amazing. Never got to ride in the elevator cuz the power was out to the building because it was empty. Lots of noises. Dinner encounter much else but I have seen the Ghost Adventures episode where they did.

I live down the hill from there.

One thing though - the sliding jail did not slide where it's at. As I remember, it did slide some and was in a spot that they didn't want it so they took it where it is now. If I remember right, it was a big truck that moved it, but my memory isn't what it used to be. There's a big article about it somewhere that I read. It's been a long time ago.
