Spain is better for people that like to be around more people, its more fast paced than Portugal and cities are bigger (whole country is bigger). Portugal the vibe is more relax (besides Lisbon and Porto), cities are like big villages and are more slow paced, more traditional and you can travel from North to South in just a few hours and see different places and landscapes which is unusual when you travel because its kind of strange and beautiful to see that you can go to the snow and mountains in central Portugal and in an 1 hour and half you are in the sun walking in a beach 😅

If you are a gastronomy lover both countries have great food but portuguese food is more complete...more fish and meat dishes and its a pastry heaven country (maybe one of the best in the world in terms of pastry 😋)!

Both countries have great climate and hours of sun the whole year but Spain is hotter and dryer in the summer in South and the water temperature is higher because of the mediterranean. Portugal on the other hand is more refreshing in the summer because of the Atlantic, a little bit more windy and with bigger waves for surfing.

Spanish people are similar with portuguese people, they are a little bit more open and louder than the portuguese that are more shy and calm but both are friendly and latin countries, so people like to be social and have fun in general.

Both countries are really proud of their history, they love their country and culture and want it to be respected and recognized by foreigners so everyone will be welcomed and enjoy a peacefull living!

What's not to like? Most of the south european countries like to mix their culture with quality of living and are proud of it.

If you chose to live in Portugal or Spain its very easy to travel by car or plane between the countries from north to south, the roads are great in general in both countries and if you learn spanish language first would be easier to learn or understand portuguese too...both languages come from latin origin!

Its the iberian brothers, once they were rivals and now they live peacefully side by side as it should be! 👍🏻

🇵🇹 ❤ 🇪🇸

Your prices are far too low. Reality is much higher for both countries.
Plus. You cannot compare prices at the Algarve with prices of Andalusia.
Or compare prices of expensive tourist areas of Lisbon to prices of Minho area or any inland area where prices are only a third of the higher one.
Spain is far more expensive in general when you chose the same level of quality.
By the way: Portuese waiters win 10 to 1 on every aspects and levels of work.

You also missed one very important factor, , , English. Portugal is very accommodating in that department, Spain isn’t.

I’ve looked at many countries around the world including Latin America, Asia and Europe based on infrastructure, healthcare, ease of visiting US and safety Europe is first. 1 France, 2 Spain, 3 Italy 4. Portugal.

I'm not certain about Spain, but Portugal supposedly has a 2 year backlog on applications.

No mention of taxes? Definitely a factor in affordability. Both countries will levy fairly stiff tax rates.

Both are not easy to retire to, and Spain especially will be hard soon given the government that is set to win. Portugal already stopped allowing most expats and retired people into their country outside of a visa stay.

Just remember, if you’re not a spanish citizen, you do not have a ton of rights…especially if you try to own property…they can take it.

The costs shown are too low for both countries. Learn the tax obligations in both countries before becoming a resident.

Don’t expat seniors have to pay 150 euros per month for the Convenio Especial, in order to join the public healthcare system when they’re residents of Spain?

Portugal - If you like living around predominantly old people, very dead during non tourist season, not as good infrastructure, very limited cuisine/mediocre restaurants in general, higher prices overall, not very vibrant people (way more reserved), lots of tourists coming to just party throughout tourist season, vastly more quiet in general, ruins all over, and lots of mold,

Spain - If you like a wide spectrum of ages, amazing infrastructure, much larger variety of food, overall much high quality of food, less expensive, can be very quiet or very busy depending on where you go, much more vibrant people but can be more arrogant for sure, far less broken down areas with ruins, better weather, vastly larger country to explore with much more terrain variety
