I grew up in a lily-white town, but absolutely loved a lot of the music from black artists -- especially Harold Melvin & the Blue Notes. I think I was 12 years old when this song came out, and the beautiful melody and soulful passion of the lyrics and vocals really struck a chord with me. Teddy Pendergrass was one of the greatest singers of all time, IMO. R.I.P.
