How I Came to the Reformed Faith

Hi All,

Just a follow-up to my previous video about the Reformed Faith. This is not a breakdown of Reformed Theology but just sharing how I came to the reformed faith and my journey to understanding the sovereignty of God and the doctrines of grace.

Reformed theology is beautifully consistent with the Bible. I could not stand the inconsistencies of the Pentecostal churches I used to attend, so when I found the reformed faith, it affected my views on everything!

Amen my sister!...same here! Raised an Arminian, walked away from church age 21, lived a very sinful life, then God grabbed me before I turned 40. I wept when I realized how horribly I had sinned against God, and how that sin was placed on Jesus. As I read the Bible all the way through I started to realize how it lines up with the Reformed Faith! I didn't choose God...He chose me. It seems like we are choosing Him, but your right, that just means He is moving in us. That's what the Bible teaches. God Bless!!!

Scripture says how God chooses ppl. God chose you because you had a willing mind to serve God. You had nothing to do with it but your heart wanted to serve God. God said HE looks for the willing minds and searches every heart. God harden Pharaoh’s because of Pharaoh’s will and heart to disobey God so in return God harden his heart to display God’s glory. Our free will gives us our true character of who we really are. Your free choice showed God your willing mind to serve HIM. it’s beautiful in God’s plan when you think about it.

The Lord is sovereign and chooses us in Him from before the foundation of the world. This grace was given us BEFORE the foundation of the world. I was raised to believe in "free will" as well until the Lord took me away from that about 4 years ago. TULIP and the 5 Solas are what His Spirit taught me. Amen to your video. Oh, and I stand alone in this with others. Many feel I'm wrong and contend with me on this just like they did with Paul in Romans 9.

Connie i head a similar experience about 40 years ago the first time I read AW Tozer's 'In Pursuit of God' I first got baptized when I was around 10-12 & maybe I meant it as much as I could but I soon became very agnostic and didn't really become a believer until about 21-22. I still have no idea if God took my good intentions as a kid or if I became born again at 21. But from my point of view I became a believer after much searching and reading on various faiths & religions. God eventually revealed Himself to me through the Bible. I felt like I searched for him long and hard, I 'pursued' Him. Then when I read Tozer using John 6:44 ( I think it is) saying something like " we think we found Him. We think we did it. But no man comes to God that He didn't call you first. He called you to Himself and you came to Him in response." I feel to my knees immediately. Blown away that I hadn't pursued Him but was only responding to Him pursuing me. How can one have that revealed and not fall to the ground weeping and worshipping? I'm 61 now and it still blows me away.

God didn’t create anyone to go to hell. God hardened Pharoah’s heart because he had already rejected him. Of course God is sovereign; and he has sovereignly decreed that people have free will. Because we have free will, there are all types of evil in the world. You are correct that we cannot come to God on our own. He draws everyone to him and some people still reject him.

Very nice video. I discovered your channel while trying to find videos to explain sleep paralysis, which I suffered from for almost 40 years.

The faith that I grew up in didn't do a very good job of explaining free will and God's sovereignty. I came to terms with it years ago but one of the best books I've read on the subject is the fairly new "What about Free Will? Reconciling Our Choices with God’s Sovereignty, " by Scott Christensen. Christensen dives into deep waters but keeps a life preserver around readers so that they don't drown.

God's absolute sovereignty over the movement of an electron in a galaxy 15 billion light years away is completely compatible with human free will and personal responsibility.
